Default SELEM 2026 Show and Events Scheduling Thread

<Edit - Draft Presentation and Auditorium Schedules Attached>

    Hello good LASER folks!

As a result of feedback from SELEM attendees in recent years, I have been asked to resurrect a more structured approach to laser show content and general educational presentations. For those of you who attended SELEM before COVID, you may recall documented show times and presentation times indicating what was going to be discussed and who/what content was being displayed. As such, I'd like to invite any 2026 attendees to suggest proposed educational topics and desired time-slots for showing laser content.

Please tell me what you'd like to see and/or present under the following categories: Dome lasershows, choreographed beam/graphics shows, and Club-SELEM content/events/music selections.

Likewise, do you have knowledge or products you'd like to share with your fellow attendees? Do you have a product you've been working on that you'd like to demonstrate to the group? Do you have knowledge of a software product that others may be interested in learning about?

Don't be shy! Please post your SELEM related desires within this thread or reach out to me directly so we can get you accommodated and maximize our time together as a community.

    Many thanks in advance!

    -David Kumpula

i would very much like to do a radiator presentation. i've been working on the firmware update for months and there's some cool stuff in there i'd like to go over. i'd also like a chunk of time to run some abstract shows. maybe an hour(ish) for each, if the schedule permits.

for running abstract shows, i'd like to have two 30k projectors and a 60k projector of reasonably matched power levels.

there are some projects that adam / chris (the smart one, not me) / i have been working on sort of in parallel that might be kind of fun to do a show and tell on, but i don't want to speak for them.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

I'd like to do my annual presentation ILDAC Update... early afternoon after lunch if possible. Thanks for arranging, Dave!

Thanks Swamidog and Hank for the quick responses. I'll get the two of you on the schedules accordingly.

Roj: I fully agree with you regarding laser show content creators being underappreciated, especially as compared with LDs and other similar skilled artisans. It would be nice to get some video for historical documentation.

I'm up for a group presentation of the projects Adam, Chris (the modest but truly the smarter Chris) and I have been working on.

I nominate Adam as the primary speaker since this was all his idea.
It will be interesting since Adam started it and the 3 of us went in very different directions.
I call mine simply the 'Bluetooth Visualizer'. I believe Chris calls his Fred.

I would also like the opportunity to play my show 'The F Word'. In years past (pre and post COVID) it was played just before the door prizes are given out.

    Default ILDA/Safety presentation

I would like to present on what is new with ILDA and laser safety in general.

I forget if I presented about ILDA Category B last year (for doing audience scanning shows safely). If I did not talk about Category B, then that would be a good topic as well.

I'll be in Seattle the first couple of days of August, so please schedule me for, say, the second-to-last day. May have to move to last day depending on when I leave Seattle.

    Thanks!

    I stand corrected.

I nominate (remove Adam insert Chris) as the primary speaker since this was all his idea.

I would be happy to talk about the audio visualizer Teensy project! Haven't had much time to work on it this week, but I'm hoping to hammer some more on it this weekend. (Working on porting everything to the smaller Teensy 4.0 and also a new audio shield that both simplifies the project and adds extra capability, including audio playback!)

David, I'll try to give you more details in a week or two regarding the presentation...

Also, to be clear: Chris Short had the original idea back in February and sent me a short video of his unit in operation. When I asked him how he did it (because I wanted to build one myself), he sent me the parts list and some demo code to verify that the audio hardware was working. Took me a while to get the hardware sorted, but once I had output, I started an email chain with a bunch of folks (including Chris) and sort of went full ham on the project, including starting from scratch with the code (using AI to do the heavy lifting). I have the entire, messy process saved in a series of emails, transcripts, and code fragments. The original units I built were a bit different that the one Chris has, as I started playing around with different displays right away. Also, my code is different than his, even though they perform similar functions. The latest iteration I'm working on (using the smaller Teensy 4.0) uses different audio hardware that will be very cool, if I can get it all working.

    Patrick,

You did the Cat-A endorsement course in 2023, and last year we talked about how the LSO certification will need to be renewed every 5 years, but Cat-B is news to me. So yeah, I think we'd all like to know more about it!
