    Default Sticky fingers

Hi All. My dichros arrived today and me not ever seeing one before want to open, want to touch, want to play....

...10 seconds later...got finger prints all over them and even me breathing on them coated it in a film of moisture. I've put them back into there sleeping bag type holders, but what can I do to clean the residue of now, and also in future.

    Cheers

the best thing to use is methanol or industrial acetone (not nail polish remover)
the methanol drys quicker but its harder to find
    and lens tissue

and either use the drop and drag method or hemostats

Water is not effective against fingerprints.

I can recommend opticlean. I buy it here (http://www.firstcall-photographic.co...s/8/brand/27/1) for £15

it coats the filter/lens/whatever with a soft polymer that disolves dirt grease & fingermarks. You then whip it off using one of the stickies provided or some tape & hey presto clean-o-rama. I leave it on optics when they are lying around to protect them from muck and remove it once installed. It works a bloody treat and does not need you to rub the surface of the optic. I have used it for my camera and laser stuff inc cleaning the mirrors in my SP168 mixed gas laser.

    Buy some.

PS be very carful in future - the best way to clean something is never to get it dirty in the first place!

I know you didn't go there...

I use alcohol and a q-tip. I'd go with what stanwax suggested though. He got the pimp 168.

Cheers for the replies. Think I'll get the kit what Rob suggested.

I wont touch it again, but you know what it's like. I've never held one before.. I held it up to my eye and looked thorugh it like a tripy pair of hippy glasses.

Just hope I dont get the urdge to look down my maxyz's when I get them or touch my scanner mirrors while there moving ...
