More DVD writer scrapping?

What about these DVD stand alone home recorders? Are they worth scrapping for diodes? There seems to be loads about but no details. Not even write speeds to give a clue as to whether they would be worth bothering with.

If they are of any use can anyone suggest makes or models to go for?

they probably wouldn't be great because they would mostly be designed to record at 1-2x, since their source is live.

You just might be able to get 75mW out of one pulsed. They are 4x max drives and typically very expensive.
