The other thing Steve-o is those GS's don't need heatsinking, you can use much easier-to-work-with materials to make a mount.

Ok, since ive loosened the 'grub-screws', how do I tell their original position-- I suppose Ive really fucked 'em up now -- hopefully not--![]()

Thanks for the advice, you-all so far, but I need a little more pleez..
I locked the shaft down with the set screw as instructed, installed a mount to the little shaft and;
I hooked one of the galvos to 10VDC just to get an Idea of the deflection angle and (1) It got very hot very quickly
and
(2) when I reversed polarity the angle was significantly less than the other polarity. I thought these were suppose to run + 18 VACout of the amplifiers.
(which I dont have yet; but they are on their way)

MixedGas just sent me a PM on how to re-align them so nevermind..
Still wondering why they get hot.. Is 10V too high?

pay attention to those resistors at the output end, they create a signal which is used for damping, ie the difference signal between the inductive load and the resistive load is the damping feedback signal.

Steve, call these people. I just got off the phone with a very nice lady who seems to have all kinds of knowledge about these. They made a custom amp for them 10 years or so ago that will drive these to almost g120 speeds she said. She doesn't know what they have "left" but they may have something you can use. I plan on stopping by there at some point soon. They're only 10 or 15 minutes from my work.
O, I think it is +5/-5v that makes em move, the 18+/- is for the amps... I think.![]()
Ouch!they will do if you apply 10v DC...
Think of them as a speaker. If you apply DC to a speaker it will overheat and burn out sooner or later. Best to connect them up to an amplified/adjustable low frequency sine wave signal if you want to test them.
Sounds like the torsion bar wasn't centred before locking the grub screw up, not a biggie.
There. Done and done. (I hope) Push on mirror mounts, a piece of aluminum..
