I once had a play with a 543nm HeNe - only 1mW but a lovely colour.
I imagine 556nm is a real mushy-pea green.
Can't wait to see it in the flesh.....

Lasers and beer don't mix. After 2 beers I lose coherence.
Actually Robin its very very yellow. More so than green though it would be classed as a green laser???!!!
As well as my reds dying on NYE the 556 packed up tooas I said in my write up the molex connector is a bit burned and sure enough this was the reason. I have now soldered the 2 red wires direct to the PCB - and its much happier.
Eventually I will put in a row of screw connectors instead of the molex. Tell you what tho. there are some fat diodes to rectify the AC in and the 2 for the red wires get very hot. I have measured that there is about 2A through them - maybe they should be TO220 diodes on a heatsink.

If you need to ask the question 'whats so good about a laser' - you won't understand the answer.

Considering 555 is the height of our visual acuity, I'd say 556 is pretty bright.
