What are those little boards with the 2 pots on them that are plugged into the main boards?

    They are notch filters.
If you check Bills post you will see his recommendation about removing them and doing a few other simple mods.

So which would you rather see in the industry -- recycled Pangolin material made by someone who was only given a few days to whip together an entire show, or... a really crappy show?
I don't mind watching a show with "recycled" frames. Its how those frames are used thats important. I'm convinced that you can just scribble a few lines on the screen and make a good show out of it. It just depends on how you do it an to what type of music you do it to. I'd also bet, that you could take say 100 frames or less and make a very well, enjoyable show, if done right. I've seen a few shows with stock frames and animations that were bad. I've even seen a show were the first few minutes were just the words "programmed with pangolin laser systems!" flies around the dome, just very boring stuff. The good shows are the ones I can watch over and over again and still enjoy them, which are just about all of AVI's shows, from the old 4 scan head "chromadepth" projectors to the Omniscan. Another great show was at a theater that is closed now in Munich, Germany. That show was sic! 2 fiber fed projectors on either side of a star projector really looks great! I remember the guys comment to me when I was talking with him, he said they wanted to add another scan head at the zenith, just cut a small hole in the dome and set a fiber fed scan head there pointing straight down, at the time, they said they haven't done it yet because they didn't have anymore money.

I haven't tested them per se, but at various PL events, I have tuned up plenty of them. They seem fine...
Oh ok, I have not used the DT-40pros, but I have to say, from what I've seen at the various meets we've had, I sorta think the original DT-40's might be better in some ways.

I think shows have a lot to do with their music as well. If you don't want to hear the song more than once you probably won't want to see the show more than once. I saw a laser NIN show once - the show itself was pretty lame - but the music made it enjoyable anyway. Personally, I am not big on animated sequences because they usually seem cartoony and corny to me. I'd much rather see some large wild rapidly changing patterns and be engulfed in tight coordinated sea of light, color, and sound. Animations certainly do have their place, though. I guess you just have to balance the two.

And what is the point of those big blocks of aluminum Andy? Ill give you a hint. The most effective heatsinking has the most surface area, not the most mass
