Don't get him started on bulges ............![]()
its now been over 3 months since i have powered the beast up
but when i do im sure that there will be a few bulges
all the best .. Karl
A confession....
After 1 year and 3 months o being clean ... i unfortunatey thought that a just a small fix would be ok ... i thought that i could just carry on as normal .... i was so wrong
I had my fix .... but an hour later i wanted more .... and then more .... this has gone on for days now
i feel so dirty ... i feel that my soul has yet again been taken by the devil
Im Billy Banthai and im a Laserholic ...............
So .... it started last week .... im back home and sitting on my desk is a package that had arrived many months ago from Australia inside is a kit of parts to make a 2w 445 laser .... dave had put together an amazing kit for me ... the diodes i already had from Dan ... Simons prisms had been sitting on my shelf since last year ....
My will was weak .... i was at my lowest point ..... i needed Lasers ...
so built it up .... went together so easy .... everything was precision milled and machined ... holes all perfect ..... the case looks pro ..
diodes fitted and clamped into the mounts perfectly ... i decided not to TEC cool as others had already said it was not totaly required .... and thats true ..... i ran the diodes for an hour CW .... and the mounts were hot but it did not afect the output power and i could still hold my finger on the mounts with out burning myself ..... i found that using the laser under normal modulated laser show use the mounts barely got warm
The driver that dave included was the DrLava driver ..... i have to say it was so easy to set up .... just follow dr lavas instructions by the letter and it sets up perfectly ( thanks Dr L ) i measured a combined 2010 mW on my Power meter from both diodes
Simons Prisms fitted perfectly in the mounts ......
I used Zoofs Prism position stencil chart .... perfect results first time .... also the lens suppied by Dave were originaly from Macarrot and these proved to be very good ..
the beam at 18Metres were 4x28 ( 4 x 15 with prisms ) i found that focusing was very fine .... moving the barell only by a couple of degrees either way changed the output to an unusable shape ..
.
also the lens also has to be screwed all the way into the barrel .... theres only a couple of turns before it bottoms out ..... i have noticed on the Olike lens that it protrudes out of the mount ...
i decided that once the best beam was achived to put a drop of silicone sealent on the lens barrel to stop it moving in transit ... same with the screws holding the prisms
the final results are wonderful ... i now have a white thats good to the eye
thats all for now .... i need some cold turkey ... with mayo of course
all the best
Karl
Very NICE!!! You should be ashamed to have let all those parts sit in their shipping boxes so long. It is not about your addiction... it is about their purpose...![]()
Very nice Karl and it's nice to see pics of the Beast back on the forum.
Please tell me you are in the country long enough to attend the LEM next weekend so we can see your projector in the flesh.

Dave ... it went together really well ... the quality of parts is fantastic
Jim ... the white to my eyes looks fantastic ... but took some photos and the white looks blue .... guessing that the camera is more sensative to 445
thanks guys
