how many mW to "beat" a searchlight?

I just saw some searchlights hitting the clouds near my house, but the clouds were too high and my ~30 mW laser was unable to make a dot on them.

Does anyone know approximately how many mW of green would it take to "beat" a searchlight, assuming that the laser has a beam diameter of 1.5 mm and a divergence of 1.1 mrad?

how far you want to search?
300mW can do this work, if you want to search far, power higher than 1watts is needed.
below pictures is our 200mW blue search did by "TimeLord"

If you really want to do it properly, you will need a laserscope...

...start at 5000mW and go up from there (but get FAA's approval FIRST! - PS - no FAA in Guatemala, where these shots were taken...)

Yes you will need alot more than 5000mW to wash out a searchlight..

Well..
The Batman in the sky was taken in daytime

but it was totally dark (exept from the lights from the city)

Holy moly, those are some sweet lasers!

I doubt they're anywhere near cheap. :\
