Ok - just got off the phone with Reggie at the auditorium. There is a router in his office that we can connect to. It's about 200 ft from his office to the edge of the lobby area. That's where we'll need to place a switch. Then we can run another drop from that switch into the auditorium. (Maybe another 150 ft or so) That should be enough to get us Internet access for the webcams!

Wifi will still be available in the lobby.

    Default Any gear for sale..?

Anyone planning on bringing some gear to sale at SELEM?

I know I would be interested in picking up a couple of decent STP-8's and / or GM-20's if anyone has some good spares for sale.

    Cool

If anyone has equipment that they want to sell or trade, by all means bring it to SELEM. I'm sure there will be a good bit of horse-trading going on!

Anyone ever carried their laser projector onto a plane?

I was talking to an American Airlines rep a few minutes ago and he said that electronic devices are rarely a problem. Turns out this guy (Ron) happened to work in lasers for the US Government in the 70s too. It was interesting to hear his stories about transporting research equipment including lasers on airplanes numerous times.

My laser is an awkward size at 29"x14"x12.5". I figured I'd remove the lenses/scanner and scanner control box reducing the height from 12.5" to 7".. Maybe I should bring it in to the airport tomorrow and get to the bottom of this. I wouldn't mind wrapping it in some thick, rubbery plastic and putting a handle on it if I could put it right above my seat on the plane..

My other option is grabbing a riveter and aluminum/wood and making a flight-case or something. I was previously going to just bring it in it's normal carrying case, but I found that I'm quite far over the linear-inches allowed without having to pay a lot.

    Johnathan;

Not sure if they'll let you bring a carry-on that is 29 inches long. Isn't there a maximum dimention limit?

I agree that putting it in one of the overhead bins would be ideal. Then again, getting the thing through security might be a challenge. Perhaps the flight case would be a good idea. Just make sure it's protected against the gorillas that will be loading and unloading the plane's baggage compartment!

    Stuka:

Forgot to answer your other question earlier, but tables and chairs shouldn't be a problem. The venue has *plenty* of folding tables and chairs for us to use. We'll be setting a lot of that stuff up on Friday afternoon. We'll be sure to have 4 or 5 extra tables set up on stage for the folks that won't be arriving until Saturday morning. That way they can drop their gear off and get started quickly.

I'm still fighting my projector. I can't seem to locate the source of the problem, but I've got a current leak somewhere that is putting noise on my ground plane in the projector. It shows up as noise in the scanned image, but it's intermittent.

I've replaced power supplies, re-wired damn near everything, and double-insulated all the voltage sources, and I still can't figure out where it's coming from. Thinking about taking tomorrow off from work so I can rip all the wiring out and start over from scratch. (All this started when I hooked up my remote kill switch box!)

Fuck - 3 days until SELEM and I've got projector problems. Sheesh!

Hey,you work best under pressure - remember what happened in Charlotte when the blue decided to crap out just before show time

    We have faith in you!

Besides, when I show up with my non-tuned, slightly-misaligned, no-case, jury-rigged rat's next of a projector, anything you show up with will look REAL good by comparison

(Although I did get the poly-20 working last night, and I have to say, it's pretty cool!!)
