ive got a mini cctv camera and i put the pos and neg the wrong way round. as you can see from the below pics ive blown sometihing?
anyway of finding out what it is and if i can replace it?

Can you buy or barrow another one that is exactly the same? That way you could ID that part. I looks like might be a voltage regulator, but who knows? You let it's magic smoke out!

lol-
i would say either a transistor or a diode. any access to a schematic or identical board? i have TRILLIONS of those diodes and transistors at work. i may be able to help you out.

Hi Andy
those 4 way connectors on thse units
are wired shown from damaged pin
pin1 ( connected to damaged component ) + 9 to 12v
pin2 Ground
pin3 Video out
pin4 line lock mode
now looking at the layout the damaged componentent is connected directly to the +12v in so it will be a diode prior to the 5v regulator seeing that it has a 20v 10uf cap connected to it
and seeing that the diode has blown and all other components on the board have had +12v up there arses instead of in there mouths ... its ver likely that other components will be damaged including the CCD which is very sensitive ....
You could try and repair ... but personaly i would bin it
Or you could bring it along to the UK meet and we could all take turns jumping up and down on it ....

shame it was an awesome little camera really good in low light.
looks like i might be buying a new one.
when i connect it to the tv, it has some life as instead of black and white dots it goes a black/grey colour, suggesting theres some life still in it.

To me the damaged component looks like it has 3 solder legs

If the blown part is a diode why did it blow?
If there was a diode in there would't this have provided protection against reversed polairty?
