Forget the opticians, go straight to eye casualty at the hospital. There will be consultants there on hand who can both examine the damage and try to repair it if necessary, I'm persuming steroids to help healing / prevent scarring would be the most likely treatment but I'm not a doctor.

Going to the opticians might tell you, that you have damage, but its just wasting time as the optiician will tell you to go to the hospital if you have.

As I see it, the quicker you see a consultant, the more likely there is something that can be done.

I'd have to agree with that! If you have a noticeable spot in your vision, this is an emergency. Go now!

......Then come home and put on the headphones and relax.

I'd still go to Eye Casualty not the opticians. You're just wasting time and causing yourself 2 waits and 2 journeys. The hospital can give you the all clear just like the opiticians but can also give you the advice and treatment on the spot if needed.

Its unlikely you'll get seen 1st thing at the opticians as they'll already have appointments, but you will get seen quickly at the hospital. Whenever I've had an infection detected at the opticians they've always said go see a doctor as there's nothing they can do beyond look as they can't prescribe. Hospital is inevitable if there's damage so you might as well be examined there.

Wow. This literally makes my eyes ache a little.

I'm been hit with something in the ballpark of 500-750mw of 532, but it wasn't quite direct, so my eyes ached a bunch. (setting up for the first time at a camp-out on the roof of my Caravan)

From what I've read about other injuries, your chances are good overall. I'm really glad to hear it was red. Most people end up getting hit by green, it seems.

Really sorry to hear you got exposed to a laser like that. Hope it gets better soon!

Sorry to hear that. Hope everything turns out okay.

I have had numerous close calls myself, but fortunately none of my spots lasted more than a couple of hours.

One of my best friends used to work for coherent, and he had a doozy one day. He was in Japan, setting up a ultrafast system, and he managed to just glance at a diffuse reflection out of the corner of his eye off of a ceramic beam dump. milliseconds later, pain and a big hole in vision.
No matter how you slice it, this sucks. Not only did you just do major damage to your eye, but you're in Tokyo, and you don't speak the language.
So off to the hospital he went, to see some specialists.
Turns out he burned to a bunch of cones and rods and Had a hemorrhaged blood vessel floating around his eyeball. The doctors really couldn't do much. They gave him some painkillers and bandaged up his eye.
After a couple of weeks the spot went away in the floaty thing also went away. He still has a hole in his vision that his brain filled in and says he notices it every once in while.

    Very nasty light!
He got hit with hundreds of nano jewels with 4 ns pulses at 100 Hz repetition rate. Watts don't really work here, but you could call it about 10 kW. It was 1062 nm fundamental with 532 and 355, second, and third harmonics respectively. Remember this was just a diffuse reflection off of a ceramic beam dump and not actually in the beam itself.

So bottom line, lasers are not toys, be careful, everyone. It only takes fractions of a second.

Makes me want to keep my mW down to something reasonable. I love the colors and the programming... But I love my one good eye more than that!

I really do wish you all the best.

    James.
