    Greets from Melbourne!

I'm Pete, and my interest is in developing lower cost professional/lab optical sources, primarily for the microscopy industry. This is mainly focused on using diode and DPSS lasers to replace gas lasers. My company has a substantial R&D lab, and engineering staff specialising in electro-optical and micro-mechanical systems.

My "host" of choice is a Coherent Radius. TEC cooled, socketed diode, remote modulation control, multiple safety interlock, etc. What you would expect from a laser of this type. It is also perfect for testing the TO-46 package LDs we have been seeing enter the market via "unconventional" channels, e.g. 405nm from BD-ROM drives, that other wavelength from those projectors, etc.

It'd be great to chat and maybe meet up with more locals interested in laser product development, even at a hobby level, since sometimes I feel very "alone" doing this type of thing here in Aus .

    Cheers,

    Pete

Nup - wrong system. There was another one in there before the sabre. It was a shorter tube than the sabre, had twin heads, was only argon, one head was off to the side and shot off a big security type dome mirror.

The 10W sabre looked amazing, but i did notice it was low on red. That oracle system went to NZ, and the side lasers were actually T3-500 RGBs (based on the arctos whitelight modules)

    hmm..

Hi Pete, good to see you here Sounds like you're into some interesting work.

Well you're not alone here in Melbourne. I don't know of other laser hobbyists (as such) in Melbourne, but do know a few of the guys involved in the laser entertainment industry, which is my primary interest in lasers.

I work in the software design and development industry, so lasers are very much a hobby for me right now. I'm working on a few laser projector projects at the moment, including the design and construction of the subcomponents, but it all feels a bit rudimentary with what I have to work with.

I'd love to hear more about your work and the kind of developments you're able to do.

    Cheers,
    Tony

    Cool

    Welcome Pete
I think you are in good company on Melbourne. Sounds
like your knowledges base will be a big help for us to.

    Mmm electromechanical devices....

I've worked in a couple of R&D companies
so I know you've probably had to sign a confidentiality agreement
but if you could post some pics of stuff you are working on that won't
get you in trouble I'm sure a lot of people would be intersted.

Great to have you here Pete.

    Have fun
    Kit

The notion of an Aussie LEM gets mentioned now and then.

Anyone interseted in making it happen?

I flew over to Melbourne to meet Adrian and Dave at Easter, thanks for the hospitality guys it was well worth the trip.

Even flying from this side of the island only cost a few hundred return.

    Melbourne is the logical place.

Hi Things do you reckon you could make it down from Queensland?

I work on casual contract to I can say yes or no to work at ant time to make it to
    a LEM.

I'd be happy to go any time of year so the guys who have to
book annual leave could form a consensus to decide a date.

    Any interest?

    Kit

    Hi Adrian
    My thought exactly!

I'll give it another bump in a few months.

I have been told that there was a guy in Cairns that used to do laser shows, but he's packing up and selling all his equipment. This made me think, Dave mentioned he sold something to someone in Cairns before, I wonder if it was this same guy ...

Hi Everyone. Decided to register, have been following the forums for a while since getting into laser scanning as a hobby.

Perth Australia, although I spend a lot of time in Adelaide and Canberra.
    This space for rent.
