    What does 659nm look like I am working on yag/yvo4 doubled by ppktp to convert 1319 to 658nm, is this color desirable in laser show apps or very dark red? thank you for your opinions.

    659 or 670nm is very deep red and is nearing the end of the usefull band as for laser show use. It will take a LOT of power and not to mention the costs involved to balance even a 1W RGB since most of the power will be red. That is why I have chosen to go down the 635nm route. Less power needed for a good balance and smaller footprint in the projector. As for the diode and the fast axis correction lens....yes I can repair it. I would like to try and harvest the original lens, but if that fails I have new stock here in .7mm and .4mm diameter. If that diode is a 19 emitter,10mm stripe width it should be no trouble. How is the resonator optics set up? Ring oscillator or linear? Let me know if I can help....if even nothing more than tech support.

    Default 635...maybe??

    Well, I might have interest in the 635 unit.....Might as well plan for the future !!!! 400 ~ 500 mw....of orange/red blazing thru the dark haze !!!

    Frank:

    That is an *extremely* difficult conversion. There is a thread here that talks about it somewhere. I know mixedGas has seen it run, but that was on a 40 watt laserscope. You're really pushing the envelope to try that as a hobbyist!

    If you can pull it off, it's a nice red. Very close to the red from a Maxyz module. But like Mike said, it's far into the red, so it's hard for the eye to see. That means you need more power to achieve the same apparent brightness. (roughly 5 times as much power as if you had used 635 nm red.)

    Mike:

    Is there any chance of you doing a short custom run on the diodes *with optics*? I think people here would be willing to pay a good bit extra to get a complete module. I've got some ideas along that line too. We need to talk.

    And yes, the cat is officially out of the bag. Mike is the one I was talking about when I mentioned that I knew someone that had a 635 nm red laser that had a 4 mm beam diameter and less than 1 mrad divergence. And yes, the diodes he's talking about *are* available in higher powers. They're expensive, but it's still a doable project I think. For sure there's plenty of demand!

    OK it is time to make the order this friday. Anyone intersted in this GB needs to send me a PM and I will provide a list here of all that are in on the order. I am sure you won't find a better diode for the money. The driver from UKlaser{Robin} is the best bet. I will include USPS priority shipping to you,insured,stateside. Let me know......this is only the beginning of a good thing.

    Any prospects for a complete "kit", or in lieu of that, a list of the parts (and suppliers) that would be needed to come up with a projector-ready laser? I'd be up for ordering if that's the case!

    I'm more interested in a "proven design" concept, rather than experimenting and potentially blowing up an expensive diode!

    Thanks!

    Mike;

    I need to talk to you about this... Might be a solution for my HGM5 (need more red than the pair of maxyz can deliver - thinking of mixing 635 with it).

    Order going out on Friday evening.....18 Sept......tomorrow. Any one else in for this? Last call for a chance at some killer diodes.

    I have to go with Randy on this, if there is a completed laser, I am in, but I will just end up killing a diode I think.
