    Default Funny one Soforene!

The baloon will be anchored to a truss system ABOVE the rear of the cars, between the cars and the building.

May not happen as planned, the LG-80 is acting like a mad robot this morning. It's swinging wildly around in auto mode and I can't get it to respond to DMX mode. Auto mode WILL NOT WORK as it can swing around at the audience at any time. It chased me around the living room all morning!

Have a call in to tech support but apparently they all go to voice mail and you have to wait for them to call you back. Bummer.

One other suggestion if your projecting that I have seen is to coat fluorescent paint on a screen (assuming the solvent doesn't attack the material). You can get fluorescents that are clear to the eye but shine under uv light. You are dependant on the amount of uv in the beam but as everyone will know, even ordinary light is brighter off fluroscent colours so it should have some effect and at laser powers I'd imagine the laser would excite the coating somewhat.

Best thing to do is coat a piece of card and experiment.

Could then use a screen or scrim instead of a balloon and use the dye to boost brightness.

    Talking hi n welcome

im pretty new to this forum too so id just like to say hi and welcome to what iv found to be the friendlest forum on the internet.
just a couple of things. i used a 200mw laser outdoors the other day and the beams were visible but i was putting a hell of alot of smoke out and it was a little foggy that night too. it was no where near as bright as it is indoors.
i myself used to have a 4.9mw chauvet lazer scan in fact it was my first laser but found that it was not too visible indoors with alot of smoke so outdoors i dought you will see anything.
also im intrigued about the chauvet yoke you have as i have never seen one before. im wondering why they have built it with a 5mw diode and made what looks like a very good unit. it seems daft to me to build a yoke light with a 12k galvo and put a diode in it that is quite dim.
i suppose its used more for the graphics than the beam shows.
im not trying to be funny iv only normally seen yoke laser is 500mw and 1000rgb sort of set ups.
    cheers mate and welcome

    Cool Greetings!

Hello LaserLink! Welcome to PhotonLexicon. As you've no doubt already discovered, we've got a nice group here. Hope you stick around!

As for your show plans - I have to admit that I'm a little uneasy about it. Will the beams that will be directed at the weather balloon be terminated on the building if the balloon drifts out of position or deflates? If so - if all beams are terminated - then you will probably be OK so long as you stay below 5 mw. Nevertheless, you might get asked a bunch of questions by local law enforcement and/or the fire chief. Be prepared to give precise answers.

As I'm sure you're aware, lasers are treated with a sort of hysteria by the media. While there are risks associated with lasers and laser shows, I believe the news media sensationalizes those risks. This is one reason why the laws regarding laser shows are so strict in our country. There really are only a few truely reckless laser owners out there, but they've been noticed by the authorities often enough that the problem is perceived to be larger than it really is.

However, even if the laws are biased unfairly agaist laser show operators, they nevertheless must be followed to the letter. By being under 5 mw, you are clear as far as the CDRH is concerned. But since you're outside, you must now satisfy the FAA as well. Fortunately, if the beams are terminated on the building, I think you can safely make the case that you're in the clear. Still, if someone tells you to shut down, I wouldn't argue. (Or at least, shut down first and then argue - politely of course!)

    Adam
