Oh man... Q-Zar. There's a blast from the past. I think, no scratch that - I *KNOW* that I've spent more money on Q-zar than I ever have on lasers. We used to play 5 games back-to-back, often 4 or more days per week. Talk about a workout! (My local membership number was 00043... I got in early!)

But yeah, the arena would get pretty nasty. The gunk was everywhere. Add to that the sour sweat smell of the packs, and the whole place reeked of "fermented locker room." But we played anyway...

    Great times!

PS: I haven't noticed any residue from the Froggy's Swamp Juice, though I don't run my fogger 8 hours per day like the hazers they had in the Q-Zar arena...

Funny you should mention that, I've got four working packs, two base stations, the software, basically everything but the scorecards.

If I can ever make it to a LEM I guess I'll just have to bring them with me.

3 beer minimum to play, No sober q-zar, of course

Unfortunately I don't think so. Probably ebays your only choice and then you don't know if what you're getting is genuine. Thats why I've stuck with Martin.

You know, I've seen the packs and energizers show up on e-bay from time to time, and I seriously considered trying to get some gear at one point. But at the time I was also getting into paintball, and I decided that paintball was more stable. Still, Q-zar is damn fun.

Where are you located? If we did do something like that, we'd need to schedule the LEM around a venue that would be appropriate for playing Q-zar. (A school would be pretty cool I think!)

I can't imagine playing it drunk. We always played sober, and after 5 games we *felt* like we were drunk because we'd lost so much fluid from sweating!

I think they still have an operating arena in Atlanta, and I know there's one in Tampa, FL as well. I really should make a road trip to one of those in the future, just for old times sake...

well, the system is pretty portable, so we could play it wherever we wanted to. Schools tend not to be the best choice, we played at my high school once, and just about got arrested/shot. apparently running around in brightly colored plastic vests is still close enough to terrorism to get you in trouble.
I'd say a hotel would be fine, or a good park, even a mall. there are many, many places. also, you could show up to the q-zar with your own pack, that would be sort of fun in an astoundingly geeky sort of way.

as far as me, I'm on tour right now, so I'm a little bit of everywhere, but the stuff is in Knoxville, TN at present.
come to think of it, I think the guns need new batteries. I'll have to check with syd on that.

It would be advantageous to bring the packs to a Lem, as some of the optics could use a bit of an alignment.

Thumbs up Q-zar for SELEM 2010 maybe?

Well, I only mentioned the school idea because the venue we use for SELEM is part of a school... But yeah, a park would be ideal. Shopping mall not so much, since there would be other people present who would not be part of the game, and that could lead to another "terrorist" scare.

Showing up to a Q-zar arena with your own pack has got to be the peak of Q-zar geekdom though! (And it would be epic...)
but the stuff is in Knoxville, TN at present.
That's not very far from SELEM... Figure 3 hours or so. Hmmmm....

Well, maybe we ought to plan on that for SELEM next year. We could extend the event by a day so that we'd have some time to play Q-zar after we repaired the optics...

Indeed. That could possibly work out, when is the next SELEM? I'd have to work it with my schedule, but that might be doable. as for the batteries, they're Nicads at present, but I plan to upgrade to NIMH (the boards don't care what their power is). Those shouldn't be too pricey an upgrade, since I only have four packs (well, four and a marshall gun).

Aliging the optics might not take that long, depends on your skill with a glue gun.

Sounds like we need a LEM in east Tennessee...

Either the second or third weekend in August. (Haven't picked a date yet.) In the past, it's always been around the 15th, but next year I might push it to the 21st. We've got a member here on PL that has volunteered to bring some very big guns for an outdoor show (Kr/Ar pair at 25 watts + total output power) for SELEM 2010, but he's only available on the 21st and 22nd.
