Default *FREE* 3D Laser frame creation

    ok here goes..

Google has this wicked tool called sketchup .. its FREE..

There is this other tool called LaserBoy.. its FREE

and there is this plug in for sketchup (attached).. and its FREE

    here is how it works

    1. Install sketchup
    2. download the plugin and unzip it to the plugins folder of your sketchup installation (c:\program files\Google\sketchup7\plugins)
    3. open sketchup and notice the "Plugins" menu at the top
    4. draw something (its very easy to do)
    5. the export it with the plugin (very easy, just name it .dxf)

you can now open the DXF in laserboy or any other software that accepts DXF

if your using laserboy do this..

Save the file out of sketchup into the DXF directory in your laserboy folder
open laser boy and open the DXF (i, 2, 1, filename.dxf, enter)

then do what you want to it and save it as a .ild file

    UNTESTED !!!!

This is a slightly edited version of the ruby script. It should make the DXF polylines all white so you can see them in LaserBoy.

I run Windows 2000, So I can not install SketchUp7 on this PC. Oh well.

Once I get it going on another computer, I'll try to figure out how to get the actual colors into the DXF file.

And you are right. It should be very easy to write a ruby script to export directly to ILDA... But who cares?

    James.

PS. I think I'm going to go 100% Linux very soon. (except for testing LaserBoy!)
