Yes I have run 4 of these off the same mod channel...I will have a few parts soon. I must finish the other 2 lasers. I have a couple of repairs here that I need to get done very soon. That is tops right now. Plus me having the flu from thursday and not getting anything done is not helping.....then its back to the blues for me....I had a new 8 watt diode here for 2 weeks and havn't had a chance to even see it. I am ready to install this guy and see if I can get over 300mw of 473 bouncing around here..

I also have the correct .20187" bit to make the hole the right size. Seems China doesnt hold a tight tolerance on a lot of things that are duplicated in the thousands....maybe the cutter was a little dull. Anyhow... that is how it is....just a few. I dont really know how to divide these up....I guess first come...first served...PM me as I will be working here tonight.
You have a drill bit accurate to a hundred thousandth of an inch!? Joke! Where did you get the 5.6mm bit?

Carefull now Mr Ben..... You dont know what 23 years in and around machining and industrial fields will allow access to. I can have any size or profile of carbide tooling that I need.

Sorry if that came off wrong, I was just being sarcastic, not questioning you.

I know you can get them that accurate, but the hole you drill will not be that accurate. Right?

It comes down to coolant, machining speeds, and taking account of work hardening the material being machined. All of these are just a few factors involved in machining the every-day parts. The industry std is getting close to .00005" for high spec pieces. Aerospace industries like Kaydon industries need these specs for the gas turbine parts. They also employ optical comparitors and flats to finally get to passing a good inspector. You would be surprised to find some of the stuff I deal with daily......

Interesting, I didn't know it was that close. I have taken several classes on CNC and CAD design. I can operate the Haas VF-3 we have pretty well. Most of the parts done on there are accurate to 0.0002 without too much trouble. But on a manual mill, I see 0.001 as pretty good for most milling cuts and holes can be bored to 0.0005 without trouble.

I know the CNC shop where I took my classes has a optical comparator and CMM machine, but I have not taken the class on using it. I have used a optical comparator at work however, very cool instrument.

That's what we're being taught here day in day out.
You need a CMM and have to apply SPC ...

I wonder if many people know what we're talking about here

Statistical Process Control. Pretty standard stuff - been using it for about 18 years here at the wastewater treatment facility where I work. (The chemical manufacturing units actually started it first, and we picked it up a couple years later.)

As for a Capability Maturity Model, we never really developed that - at least not to to the level that most people mean when they apply the term. I've read about it being used more in the software development industry than anywhere else, but I suppose it could be used in an industrial manufacturing process just as well. For sure aspects of a CMM are present in the SPC system we use.

We have a lot of variability in the plant though (biological processes are like that), so a true model isn't nearly as useful as the SPC data itself is. (Well, I suppose a CMM will tell you the limits of your process, but we already know that from the SPC charts.)

Still, they're all good tools, if you know how to apply them.

    Laser Warning BUMP !!!!

The last pair are up for grabs....these have burned in for a little over 1 hour and all is well. This is a package deal....these lasers come as a matched pair doing just over 200mw each. One is H pol and the other is V pol. This set is going to get my last PBS cube and a nice aluminum plate to mount them on. Also included is a 1rst surface mirror and adjustable mount...not the best in the world...single axis. I cobbled them up as you can see and got over 393mw just set up on the table! I will let this whole package go for $325 shipped CONUS priority mail....insured. Pix...........
