    Default Mixing 445 with 473

    HI,

I am looking at mixing 445 with 473...

So far I have not been able to find suitable Dichro'..
Have talked to Bridge and looked at Edmunds but no luck.

There is not a lot between these at 28nm so its got to be "sharp".
Maybe long or short filters to pass / block ??

Is it feasable to do with a PBS do you think ??
I am not sure of the implications with a PBS cube given that we are trying to use two different wavelengths.
If it is are we still stuck with the polarity issues.. ??

Does anyone have the name of the factory where the 635 / 660 dichro's were made for the group buy a while back..
Maybe its worth looking at that road. Could be so if other had an interest in doing this as well.

It appears to me that 445 for graphics and "white" but using the 473 for blue beams..

    Any thoughts ???

    Many thanks

May work. Can't be sure unless you can find a datasheet. Other thing you could do is use a 473nm PBS.

I have a plan to add a 405 diode to my little RGB just for some extra pizzaz thought it wont be anywhere near as sexy as 445nm i was going to achieve it with a cube. The main consideration will be the polarisation of the 445. If its a single diode then you are laughing but if there are multiple sources within the module then there will be a cube in there already and you will loose half your 445 not good.

If you need to ask the question 'whats so good about a laser' - you won't understand the answer.

where are you getting your 445nm? And how much of it?
I know I'll be adding 445nm as soon as the price permits.

Mixing it with 473 might be more trouble that its worth though. Mix a bit of green with the 445 and the visibility should go up a lot while you can achieve the 473nm color (hue)

agreed, just mix some 532 .. there is a color correction board that someone is working on... its suppose to be for the 405 but would work for the 445 as well.

    Thumbs up

You are breaking ground on something I have wanted to do for a while. I'd say a PBS would be the cheapest way but maybe not that efficient. Althought, loss should not be too bad if you use a 473 cube; they aren't that far off.

Great idea! Are you trying different angles of the dichro, not just 45 degrees? I saw 635 and 671 combined at an angle of 30 degrees recently instead of 45 degrees, it worked pretty well. Looked funny on the bench but it worked.

If you have enough space on your optics table you could try combining by using a prism in reverse ( just an idea )

try Omega Opticals two stores on ebay for some whacked out dichos. they will scan them for you to get you a idea of what is going on. especially if you ask tehm what they have, they often will "angle tune" something for you and test it.

    also seller omegabob

these guys got me a split yellow reflect green for my all lines krypton and a few nice narrowband filters. I used to buy from them at work for bandpass stuff. They always include a curve with purchases.

Omega may not make state of the art world class ion plated optics like newport, thorlabs, JDSU, or semrock, but they are honest, ship blazingly fast and a good price/performance ratio. Ie no ion plated prices.

like this one, which would combine red/green with 405 at 45'
