I would just point out that although the positions worked out OK the optics didn't, once I allowed the beam out of the end of the sled I discovered that the mirror only reflected 50% of the blu ray and split the green into 3 beams.

    Thanks for that,
Did you get the green splitting into 3 beams in your first build?
How did you solve it or is it not noticeable?

ah, that actually makes a lot of sense. I've always wondered why people kept using the word violet to represent a colour i'd call more purple than violet. I thought it was just a language thing between countries. hehe
    Thanks for explaining that.

No, on the first build the optics worked perfectly as they were as it only uses splitter cubes.
On the second one, as well as using a cube, I needed to use the dichro but the standard one in the PHR 803T sled is just too clever by far, I have sorted it out though.

Did your first build use the KES-400A sled ?

Yes, the KES 400A turned out to be the perfect sled for my first try just because all the optics worked together so well. It was one of only 2 types of sled I had at the time, it is probable that there are other sleds that have been butchered for LD's would work as well.

In the kes-400a sled you say both blocks are PBS cubes. The first one combines the red and violet because they're both polarized and you send the red through, and bounce the violet off. The exiting beam is magenta-ish and enters the next cube. But, the beam consists of the red and violet with polarizations at 90 degrees to eachother. So should't only one of the beams (red or violet) pass through the cube while the other is mostly reflected? Or is it something other than a PBS cube?

Also, you allude to making the phr-803t sled work after at first the dichro in it was causing problems with the green. Would you please elaborate?

TBH I have no clue what the 2 cubes in the KEs sled are, all I can say is they work...

The PHR-803T dichro reflects 100% red and 50% blu ray (the rest of it dissapears into a little hole in the side of the housing)
The green, going through the dichro, was split into 3 beams when it emerged from the other side. I replaced the dichro with a different one and it works fine now.
I am literally just off to the airport to fly off for 2 weeks, if you want more info it will be a while coming I am afraid....

Oh no, not quite yet! Did the replacement dichro come from a sled? If so, which?
