    Default A new blue

Iron vapor and iron bromide lase at 452.9 nm. If its anywhere near as efficient as a CVL this sounds like a winner.

Sounds like a nice color... but it also sounds like it needs a lot of power... being it is gas. The boss complains about the power draw on the lil argon I got. She isnot a fan of the appitite of gas lasers.

Is this something being tried somewhere? Sounds pretty cool.

...plus iron is cheaper than copper -although I've learned it doesn't take much copper to run a CVL anyway.

Is this a really 'high gain' medium like copper? I'm working on a metal vapor tube right now but want to build something where tuning and mirror alignment will be relatively easy. Also, do you know if the temp at which it vaporizes is similar to CuBr? I'm currently looking for a suitible oven/heater for the tube.
