Like it is now, your module will not cool the diode very effeciently.
The only thing you have now is great mass, this means the temperature will rise very slowly, but It will also decrease very slowly.

The thing you want for good cooling is a smaller mass, but a very large surface area. This larger surface area can be acheived through mounting your smaller mount to a heatsink, or a nice cool base plate. (you will have to electrically isolate your mount from the base plate, as the case of most red laser diodes is connected to the cathode)

Also a problem I see with your current drawing is the long tube. The beam will have to be perfectly parallel with the axis of the tube not to hit the wall of the tube.

The Aixiz glass lens is propably a copy of the Roithner one!
    Yeah, could be

The Roithner number 27 has a shorter focal length than the aixiz glass and acrylic, which in turn gives you a thinner output beam. It also gives you a power increase over a coated aixiz acrylic.

Sorry to kick up my old thread again. But I have the aixiz blank module and I need to build a heatsink for it (alot easier than what I wanted to do in this thread before :P). But right now I'm at school and I forgot to take the dimensions this morning . And I want to go to the hardware store right after school to get some aluminuminiminum . So has anyone got some dimensions for me? I need the diameter and length.

    Thnx in advance!

I don't have one at hand right now, but googling around for it gives 12x30mm.. so.. 12mm in diameter and 30mm length?

I got myself a couple of the Z-bolt heatsinks:

    How about these?

That's about the same as I'll be making.
Btw just got myself a big chunk of 50x50 square alu so that's more than enough . I'll try to post some pics when I've milled the thing tomorrow

How are you gonna get this milled? Do you have your own CNC setup?
Can't wait to get my hands on a cnc miller.. the world of possibility that opens up!

Saturdays I work at a small company where they have a manual mill, lathe and cnc mill and they don't mind if I use the manual mill. I'm a bit afraid to use the CNC since it is expensive and I haven't really done alot with CNC yet . And this isn't really too hard to mill by hand
