20% loss, that is quite a disappointment. Maybe its not so suitable for mixing after all.

it was made for reading discs, not getting maximum efficiency. rfourt the other diode in the sled is a red/ir. im not sure of the pinout for those though.

I know but I was counting on it to be better than that. No offense to the sleds or diodes.

For the folks that have a maxy module that died due to back reflection, it would seem that these open can diodes that ndrew is selling make great drop in replacements. I replaced one here, didn't change anything on the maxy module driver (currently set to 340mA) and it has been running great. Over 30 hours on it with no problem. The only issue is the output is 170mW, there may be a way to bump up the current on the maxy module driver, still trying to figure it out, kinda difficult since all component markings have been removed.

it should take about 350mA to give you ~200mW. 420mA according to drlavas graph is the sweet spot for these diodes and will give you ~250mW. you may want to do stress testing at those powers though. these are usually used for burning pointers but at 350mA and 200mW you should get a nice life from them.

Are the open cans common anode or common cathode?
    Or hopefully isolated?
