Ok, OPs; You both have good points and I can understand where both of you are coming from.

Heres what I would like to see in the next couple replies; No snark and a sentence or two explaining what each of you would individually like to see so as to neutralize the torrential downpour of drama.

Seriously... Just state what each of you would like to see happen.

I have not asked for a refund,,what is your trip,
I sent a PM stating the condition of the diodes, and you did not reply,so I posted on thread about the no reply!!!
    I sure got one,,,
the Alum.foil laid on the die and pressed the lead against it.

These are not directed at you Admin,
    they are to ndrew

So you have asked for nothing?

    what is your trip
My trip is that I happen to own/operate this domain and I personally find illogical drama pointless.

I sent a PM stating the condition of the diodes.
the Alum.foil laid on the die and pressed the lead against it.
Call me crazy(go right ahead) but aren't these sleds made out of aluminum? 660's from my perspective have always been less sensitive to static than 405's. Following this logic; given that the 405's arrived in working order it speaks volumes to the effort the seller went thorough to make sure everything was ok.

Here are my thoughts on the matter... The seller *could* shunt/zener the diodes before shipping but that from experience has led to more failures as the buyer tries to remove it. Hell, I've killed piles of diodes... It happens and should be considered an expected outcome in this little hobby of ours.

Now, assuming you got a fluke diode that was bad, accept that fact. There is not a single diode manufacturer on the planet that allows returns/refunds after the client has physically handled them. *too much* can go wrong and it is *almost* impossible to prove negligence on either part. Assuming the seller wanted to make it absolutely right and send you a new diode that would be his prerogative and not something you can demand of him. Furthermore; Getting pissy and yelling at him in his profile and in his thread will most certainly not make him want to play nice.

Please, stop the drama. I don't like it. If you had a bad experience with the seller in question post in the correct forum and don't shit on his FST thread.

In short; the more noise you make about this, the less likely it is to be remedied to your satisfaction.

    These are open can diodes,
    wrapped in alum.foil by shipper
I have not asked ndrew for a refund or replacement

And assuming the AL is *not* statically charged when placed on the diode it actually acts as a cheap protection against static damage, certainly better than a bare diode in a bubble wrap envelope. Those things are dielectric nightmares.

Proper ESD safety techniques apply to all users, assuming you were wearing socks and passed over pile carpet on the way to working with the diode its entirely possible that you inadvertently killed it.

See what I mean about how it is impossible to prove one way or the other who's at fault?

Now, if you happen to have a class 1000 clean room and proper ESD safety equipment then that would be another story.

The die's lead was pressed against the bare die

That sounds like a short circuit rendering yet another path of least resistance for errant static to travel.

And before anyone decides to jump in and kick me in the teeth for my last comment, please note that I am *avoiding* the heady technical nonsense attributed to the quantum realm and electron leakage issues that could be calculated out to a few decimal places regarding which lead would be "better" to short to the case.

Yep just one of those things!
maybe a little different method of static protection and material protection for shipping?
ESD foam??I am also curious if there is any QC for binning these and checking for operation before shipping?
