Default Lovely Single Line Argon FS

    Hi

I'm saving up to buy a lathe so i've decided to sell my lovely little single line argon laser with beam specs to die for

Output power (measured) is ~20mW (488nm single line)

    The power supply is a Cyonics Mod 2101 155 SLB, S/N 10193, May 1991

    The laser head is a Spectra Physics 163 - A1202, S/N P10107210, October 2000

It's a 115volt model BUT I have a step down transformer from 240v to 110v that comes as part of the package if you want it. Be warned though the step down transformer though small in size is F*cking heavy (ask Pit8ull, he carried it up the stairs at one of the UKLEMS - Thanks Simon )

I would prefer to sell this to someone in the UK as packing it up and posting it would be a nightmare and very expensive as well. It could be collected in person (I live near J40 of the M1) or I could bring it along to the UKLEM in Leicester on 1st March. I would need a definate committment to buy though as I don't fancy carting it along just for the fun of it, so payment in advance would be required

Anyway, it's a lovely little unit that looks in virtually brand new condition. The keyswitch has been removed from the back and bypassed. This would be easy to replace if required.

    Price?... Well, I figured £150

    Cheers

    Hi

I know this probably isn't what you want to hear, but at the moment i'd rather try to find a UK buyer. For one thing carriage to the USA is very expensive from the UK and this thing aint exactly lightweight, it's also fairly fragile.

I could pack it up really well, but beyond that I wouldn't accept any responsibility for it once it had left my door. These couriers can be quite savage and I wouldn't want you to be disappointed if it arrived in a non-working condition.

I think what i'll do is cart it along to the UKLEM and run it there and see if anyone's interested. That way lots of people will have seen it running and see it's in perfect condition. If there are no takers then I *may* decide to let it risk a transatlantic journey.

Hope you don't think i'm being funny about this and if it was some piece of solid metal etc., then I wouldn't hesitate to send it to you. I just don't want to risk things turning sour if something happens to it along the route. I hope you understand.

    Cheers

I've posted a full Argon + PSU out to the states before Christmas via the glorious royal mail. Not fun, not recommended.
I died several times that day; 1.) Lugging the thing 2 miles on foot to the post office and 2.) When I got the receipt from the PO guy - I had to sit down in a darkened room for several hours to recover - a tad over £119!
I should frame that receipt and put it on my wall

Just out of interest, what lathe are you getting? Are you going for a small-mid sized one from Chester tools or ARC Euro or something?

I'm looking for a decent Myford Super 7 with power crossfeed or a Myford ML7 with Trilever gearbox. They keep coming up on Ebay but they always seem to fetch top money. I was recently bidding on an ML7 with tirlever that was bought brand new in '74 and hadn't been used since then, it was in pristine condition. In addition the winning biddder got to choose any of the tooling and accessories from the deceased guys workshop. I bowed out at £1700 and it eventually went for £1771, I wish i'd have put a bid in at £2k, I might have got it, but there's a limit

I've looked at the Chinese ones and the build quality does seem to be improving, but there's nothing like a well built and well looked after Myford

I know exactly what you mean!
My 'little' Chinese lathe is good, but fragile. However the Myfords/Boxfords I've used are something else! If only I had the space +money ...
Good luck hunting down a bargain.

I don't know about bargains - but I bought my CNC miller from G&M tools:
    http://www.gandmtools.co.uk/

Look what they have on the first page - a super7! (albeit slightly expensive...)
If you do find something remotely close to what you're after, phone them up and haggle, I practically knocked 40% off the price of my machine. (But that was about 2 years ago)

    Good luck!

    Dan
