The alloy of aluminium I've used welds very poorly, but is the best for machining. I could have chosen otherwise, but I prefer milling and such to welding
Yep, I think I've made 2 more extra than needed. I may only end up with 10
The plan is to mount the posts every 100mm (starting and ending 50mm from the triangular plates). I chose the numbers and diameter for rigidity.
I've attached a rough drawn photo of where the optics path will be. The lower deck is for laser heads and optics. The upper deck is for electronics, PSU's and anything else. The lower deck will be sealed, and the upper deck will have a fan on either end to create a 'wind tunnel' flow. All PCB's will be mounted vertically and parallel to the long edge in the middle. This way air can flow right through the case and cool all the bits and bobs.
That watch is awesome!
It's a shame it's only a concept model, I really would like to get hold of one of those!
I've planned out most of the layout on several sheets of A3 paper stitched together, and should be ok. I even had an excel spreadsheet re-calculate all the dimensions if I changed one tiny variable.
I know by going the triangular way, I loose out on a shed load useable volume bulk, but I hope I've provisioned enough useable space to fit all that's needed (and more!) inside.
Thanks to everyone for their comments and suggestions - much appreciated.
