    Laser Zone:

Admission to FLEM is free. The room rental fee is only $50, and it's already been paid!

If you're thinking about coming, you're more than welcome! Bring whatever gear you want. See earlier posts in this thread for all the details about how to get to the venue, nearby lodging, etc...

SELEM costs us a little more to rent (this year it will probably cost us around $600 for the weekend), so for that event we do charge a nominal fee. But it's a 2-day event, and you also get a nice, knit shirt with your admission to SELEM.

    Aaron:

Right now I'm expecting somewhere between 17 and 25 PL members, plus a few guests on top of that. Quite a few of those people marked "probably" are like 99% sure they can make it. I just didn't want to move them into the "for sure" category and then have everyone be disappointed if something came up and they couldn't make it.

    LOL!

On a real note... I'm itching! I have been working like a madman the past week and had no time to play with lasers. This weekend is shot too...

In another few days though, all bets are off!

Is dinner settled? Who's making it when? How much alcohol will be involved, I got a long drive back home that night... Hindsight 20/20, I should have gotten a room for Friday Night... I thought an hour or so on the road won't that bad

P.S. Welcome Cathy and Matthew, hope you got your reservations at the special rate...

Ok, Alcohol will be involved then... fantastic!

Oh, I got a little nifty gift for everyone (well, 25 of you anyway, didn't think we'd have that many, but the more the merrier! )... Still working on a door prize as well, so that may be done by the time FLEM comes around

Default HELP - need ideas pronto!!

    OK fellow FLEM'sters, here's the deal -

The logistics probably aren't going to work out for me to get my RGB rig to FLEM (I'm flying in, rig weighs a ton, new job, apartment hunting, work-related events, blah, blah, blah...)

Anyhow, since I've been triple-dog dared, I do feel it is my duty to at least try to show up with the "Jolly Green" project, but since we're talking 1 watt + () of cool () - and potentially dangerous () green beams, I figure I need to at least put it in some sort of enclosure that will contain the stray beams!

The current configuration is all mounted on piece of 12" x 24" laminated shelving. That boards holds the Laserwave 1W laser & PS, a couple of small bounce mirrors, a couple of dmx boards, a couple of hobby servos, and a short power strip with a couple of wall-wart power supplies (WHAT a projector!! ) What I'm looking for is some sort of pre-fab enclosure that would offer roughly the same mounting area, with one end that could be fairly easily drilled / cut for an aperture.

Not looking for anything fancy - this is NOT going to be compliant with any kind of standards or regulations, but will be, hopefully, semi-safe!! I'll be using DMX to control the modulation and optics, and already have a remote heavy-duty extension cord to serve as the "kill switch". I'm not really concerned with provisions for mounting any of the external hardware you would normally find on a projector.

Anyway - if anybody has any ideas for some sort of readily-available - and affordable - prefab temporary enclosure that might do the trick, I'd like to hear from ya'!!

    Thanks!

Try an old PC server case and strap a breadboard inside... Quick, dirty, cheap. I believe you can get all three of them at one time.

    Hmmm -
REALLY good idea; unfortunately, since I'm not in the biz any more, surplus computer cases don't seem to be as easy to come by!!

    Worth checking on, however!!
