    WHY ?

I think overall the majority of PL and Laserfreak members could be considered "Students" of the Art of Laser Light , and as such a student type 50% discount would be appropriate ........ ILDA can encompasse the hobbyist , encourage end educate by making it more easier ( cheaper) to join , and join in ! - at the same time increase revenue ... 50% of something is better than 50% of nothing ! and it would help them better meet there aim of Education.

At the moment they only have a handful of "student" memeberships which proves people are only joining when they feel they are "IN" or part of the buisness ? making money ? ... the ILDA has so much information about safety and processes Im sure it would benefit the laser world to see a hundred more "students" join , passing on quality "from the horses mouth ! qualified safety information!"

YES , there will be the od person who joins with a student memebership when they are actually making money , but in the main i am sure people will stand up and join in the correct package as im sure there wont be many folks making money ? who will want to have PL / STUDENT MEMBERSHIP ???? next to their name

Anyways , yes a discount would be nice !

Not saying it wouldn't be nice if it was cheaper, but that IS cheap for a 3 day conference. I've got to attend a local LEM first though

Yep, AND just lookie-at this amazing price... wow (though, this IS 'Coach' - not too comfy on such a long flight... BUT 'Business Class' starts at ~$2200. and First, is like, $4K and up ouch...) still, Coach is not too bad...

Sooooo, Hmmm: ILDA Conference in Amsterdam - or - Good down-payment on new RGB Compact 4......ILDA Conference in Amsterdam - or - Good down-payment on new RGB Compact 4......ILDA ... Aah, crap - I'll prolly have to stay here and just bloody work, as-usual

Maybe Hugo could give away one of his now obsolete 10W Jenlas Whitelights to each PL attendee as a door gift.

I think ILDA might need a bigger hotel!

"working on it over the weekend! I gotta get everyone to agree...."

Be interesting to hear of results !

You should also look at changing policy of publishing full names and address and phone numbers of students and individuals ...i can understand that for corporate members etc but the policy as it is , is likely putting off more people than you can imagine ! It certainly put me off a few years ago when i was thinking about joining as an "individual" .... its just asking for trouble anyways EVENTUALLY some crazy horse is going to start makeing negative use of the information published. ( Change the policy now - BEFORE the horse has bolted ! )

That would be worth double the fee for the ILDA conference. Not for 3 days of lunching, "elections", having dinner & banquets with the "elite" of the ILDA.

    I totaly agree with Jeroen,

Looking at the agenda, only the saturday is interesting, so it would be nice if we could get a reduced ticket for saturday only.

Although I'm just a hobbiest and don't know a lot of the "pros" yet, something tells me that if you put out the time, effort, and money to attend one of these WORLD WIDE invitation events, the "ILDA elite" tag probably isn't quite as noticeable as the complainers might think!

Having met folks like Patrick Murphy and Bill Benner in person at SELEM (which is a "buy a shirt to get in" event ), I can say that the hobbiests were treated with as much respect, time and interest as the "pros" might receive, and would probably receive the same treatment at this or any other ILDA event!

No, it's not cheap (but then, neither is ANYTHING about our collective interest in this hobby / passion / profession!) - it's a once-a-year, WORLD WIDE invitation event at a classy hotel. No, not everyone can afford it, just as those of us that enjoy snow skiing can't all necessarily afford trips to Tahoe or the Swiss Alps to enjoy our sport!

If you can afford it, go for it and enjoy! If you can't afford it, there's absolutely no reason to bash it because of the price tag- - there's way too much of that type of crap on this forum as it is!!

Personally, if I could figure out a way to swing the price and time off to attend the event (realizing this would be a "once in a blue moon" opportunity), I would jump on it in a heart beat!!

Like we are not all published in a phone book anyway? I don't understand... please explain further. I don't see any problem with making that a policy, just don't get it. - Tim
