whats a night at a decent hotel in Europa costing these days on average anyways? Due to some of the annoyances of hosting a ILDA style event, hotels do like to charge quite a bit. That is cheep compared to ILDA at Disney, in a way.

The most normal hotels i stayed at where anywhere from 60 to 90 euro's a night on normal (not special) days.

these where good clean hotels good enough for anybody... but no gold and marmer valet parking palace's....
I don't care if my watertap's are GOLD or just chrome... i don't need roseleafs on my bed and all that shit...

thats nice for a special time with a special person.

    Awwwww. Bless ya.
Is this your way of asking me to go to the conference with ya?
    You're on Big Boy.
You book the Honeymoon suite and I'll go pick out a pretty frock.

I'll take a stab at this one... well, from my perspective anyway.

Details published in a telephone book for individuals don't advertise the fact that they own expensive goods etc, it's just one set of individuals details amongst thousands of others.

Personal details advertised on the ILDA website pretty much tell the general populus that the particular individual in question has a lot of expensive gear at his/her property.

Now this may not be a problem for larger companies, but for smaller or individual members/hobbyists who tend to keep their gear at home it is like giving a burglar a list of easy pickings.

Maybe it's not so much of a problem in the USA, but here in dear old Blighty i'm afraid that crime (home burglary) is on the increase as the recession begins to bite. We don't even have the luxury of being able to protect our own property in the way that some of you guys in the States do. If we take the baseball bat to a burglar whilst trying to protect our homes it's the homeowner who will more than likely end up in court charged with assault , Hell, we can't even put up razor wire around our property just in case the poor guy happens to cut himself whilst trying to break in.

So, I hope this helps you to understand one individuals point of view. There seems to be a culture of 'if I can't afford it i'll steal it instead' propagating here in the UK <insert very mad smiley here>. I still hold on to the belief that overall the majority of the population is good and i'm a very trusting person. However, there seems to be a certain proportion of our population who don't want to conform to the laws of our once wonderful land <insert another very mad smiley here>.

As you can probaly tell, this touched a bit of a raw nerve... didn't want to offend anyone and i've tried to be polite, but I hope now you have a better understanding of why publishing the members full details is not a good thing .

    Paul and Jeremy;

I believe if you wanted to join ILDA and remain annonymous, all you would need to to is request that your contact information not be published on the website. I'm sure that Patrick would be willing to accomodate your request.

However, a lot of people join ILDA because they *want* the recognition of being associated with a professional organization. Even hobbyists that join for no greater reason that to support the cause are no doubt a little flattered to see their name on the roster. So I think that the majority of the members don't mind being listed. (It's actually listed as one of the benefits of being a member...)

Having said that, I understand why you would prefer to keep your details private. And I honestly believe that Patrick would understand as well. I suggest you contact him with your request.

I don't have a problem with my name being published. Also, I would use the ILDA logo with pride

It's just a sad fact of the way things are going over here, it's best not to let some people know all the details so easily

    Cheers

    Hey Tim

"Like we are not all published in a phone book anyway? I don't understand... please explain further. I don't see any problem with making that a policy, just don't get it. - Tim "

Mmm maybe its a cultural thing , maybe its just me !
( BTW i would have to join now as a corporate member i think so i would NOT NOW object to my details being published in the corporate section , as i would be publishing buisness details )

However as i built my little buisness as a hobbyist I looked at ILDA quite a few times but didnt join purely as hobbyist there was no benefit to have my full name address zip code and phone number being published ...i would guess you lost at least 3 years worth of fees from me anyway purely on that one principle.

I respect my privacy and dont want someone who knows a few little details like my name or postcode being able to google it and tell an awful lot more about me ...for a hundred reasons ..one being it can aid in identity theft ..also what if someone gets upset by your comments on a forum and link you thru say your sig to the ILDA and start making strange phone calls in the middle of the night sure the wife and kids would love that ! and the simple fact is theres more ways than we could ever imagine that general scum will abuse information

Its only my opinion , and it might be wrong but the default should be NOT to publish in student / individual unless the member chooses full disclosure.

Thats my 2 cents worth anyways

OK, I understand. Keep in mind I live in Texas where we can pretty much shoot anyone who trespasses like that.

Seems like ILDA could keep the personal details optionally private... doesn't seem like a difficult thing to do. I'll look into it -
