    Question Bitten by the RGBug

Hi folks, long time no post. You did warn me but it was going to hapen anyway. Green is beautiful but I think it should be with its friends. I realy need more colours!. I have a new case (striped out desktop pc) I remembered one that I had seen on here, cant remember who posted it but I thought it was a splended idea. I have a set of galvos, amps and psu ready to go in. Now this is where I could do with a little advice please.

As my funds are limmeted my plan was to buy a couple of 6x bluray sleds and drive all four laser diodes (2x405nm and 2x650nm) from four stan-ham drivers powered by two LM317 circuits set at the two different voltages for the laser diodes (4.5v ish and 3v ish??). Combine the beams with pbs cubes mounted on three axis mounts, buy a cheap (with ir filter) 532nm and combine all three beams in the usual manner.
Am I better off buying the pbs cubes, dichros and mounts all from one place eg. Laserwave. or shopping arround?
What kind of power would the 532nm have to be to give an approximate "white"?
Will the FB3 have any trouble driving five modulation outputs?

    Sorry about all the questions.
    Cheers.
    Scoot.

That's exactly what I'm planning to do!
I think you may want to check the output voltage of the LM317, and bump it up a bit. As the driver will have some sort of voltage drop across it too.
The FB3, as far as I'm aware, will only 'see' three lasers, as the two blu and two reds will be on the same channel, and receive the same modulation.

There is a good post, (by Antony? ) detailling all the different colour mixes. I *roughly* remember the 405nm to 532nm ratio to be 4.15. Best check though...

BTW: Get your ass down to the UKLM4 next Sunday!

    Hi Scoot

    Welcome back

I suggest you perhaps contact Rob (Stanwax) on this forum, he is the agent for Laserwave in the UK. He probably has a fair amount of the bits & pieces you require in stock, certainly things like pbs cubes, dichros and mounts... Oh and lasers .

    Default fb3

i have an fb3 and i used to have a home made five x red 660nm it did not have any problems driving them i just connected all five modulation inputs
to the one red output on the fb3 and it worked jus fine i used robins die4drive on mine

Like Dan said get on down to Leicester next Sunday and you will see and hear enough to give you mind an overload

If you need to ask the question 'whats so good about a laser' - you won't understand the answer.

You can pull the ratios from Anthony's projector post assuming he made it to his own optimum findings:

I have to say I was very impressed with the result.

"Tocket" here on PL knows a lot about colour theory, he has nice diagrams in a threa that I think was called "the perfect white balance" or something like that!
