IF you want to do paid shows, you'll need to go for the Eval kit (licensing), and if you want to invert a set of scanners you'll probably want to request the differential board as well.

Eval is about $550 and LivePro USB is $250 (or was when i bought it over Christmas - note this was the regular price as it wasn't included in the holiday specials)

fb3 evaluation pack with live pro for £650 which is an absolute bargain
By my reckoning you can still pick that up new (even with the crappy exchange rate) for £550 (plus import duty/VAT) Might be best to buy the eval kit only so you only pay import on the $550 rather than the LivePro software too. You can get the software electronically direct from Pangolin separately (which is what i did) so no customs charges.

If you need to ask the question 'whats so good about a laser' - you won't understand the answer.

The hobby kit (called the "LA Freak" kit) is not licensed for commercial use, and it does not have the DMX-in connector. The regular package (called the "Evaluation Kit") *is* licensed for commercial use, and it includes the DMX-in connector.

Apart from that, the two are identical. They both come with the same software suite.

You'd be better off buying it direct from Pangolin. (They're located in Orlando, Florida.) The "LA Freak" kit is $500, and the "FB3 Evaluation Kit" is $595. Plus shipping of course.

So if you're thinking about doing commercial shows, you're going to want the Evaluation Kit. And if you're going to do *Live* shows, then you'll want to order LivePro with your FB3 Evaluation Kit. You'll need to contact Pangolin for a price quote on LivePro for the FB3 though.

Check out the links to the Pangolin website that Stuka posted above.

    Cool

Yeah, some of them did come that way. Bill mentioned that he was thinking about just including it in all of them from now on, but I don't know if that's official policy yet or not.

Bottom line though, it's unlikely that you'll ever use the DMX-in port. It's only good for running the FB3 in stand-alone mode, where you trigger the effects from a DMX lighting panel. But nearly everyone that buys one either connects it to a laptop to run it, or else just leaves it run in "free" mode. (That is, it starts displaying frames as soon as you power it up.)

I'll ask Bill for a quote.. Maybe i'll get a discount for Livepro when I order my second FB3

Oh yeah... There were a few people that got lucky on that. It was a mistake made when they were shipped... Wrong software on the disc!

But even so, LivePro for the FB3 is cheaper than it is for the QM-2000. (I think it's like $695 for the QM-2000, but if you order LivePro for the FB3 at the same time that you order your FB3, I think it's only a couple hundred dollars extra...) Use the contact form on the Pangolin website and check with Bill about the bundled price.
