Default Hi guys. I'm new here...

So, I've been anonimously reading this forum for a couple of months and trying not to get sucked in. Oh dear, I've subscribed and registered......and the reason why is that I may need help. Okay, so I don't understand all the jargon yet (but it's good fun to learn) and am not in the league of building my own death ray - as some of you seem intent on doing but I do run a disco and have just started to play with lasers.
I originally purchased a small twinkling R/G laser ( you know, the cheap one from EBay) and loved it! Then I made the mistake of looking at other stuff and before I knew it I bid on and bought a Laserworld RGB Pro 500 system. OMG! When this thing turned up I thought my wife was going to divorce me But, once I fired it up, I did not come out of the garage for over a week...and it is awesome!
Now my plea for help is this. I have been using this laser in DMX mode and I thought it was brilliant. Now I find that with software this DMX mode is nothing! So, is the Laserworld software (Showeditor 2008) good and can a newbie like me plug it in to my laptop, press some buttons and wow my audience. The reason I ask is I see that the software is not cheap. I cannot afford to get into trouble with my wife again so I must make sure I buy the best gear!
Any comments from you experts would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, by the way, conversations about lasers are now banned in our house. What have I done?

    Thanks guys,
    Lindsay

    Welcome Dude
None of the laser show creation packages are "super friendly" in that you need to spend some time getting to grips with them before you can start to produce stuff with the WOW factor.
The fastest way to get up and running is to buy software that already has shows written for it.
In this way you can either buy or trade (legally of course) shows.

As you state you've been reading for a while you will know that a lot of the guys on here are into Pango gear.
It ain't cheap but if you want the mutts nutz then you are gonna have to do 2 things.

    1. Save up and buy the best.
    2. Lie like buggery to the missus about the cost.

Whatever you do, don't attend the UKLEM this Sunday in Leicester.
The sight of all that beautiful gear creating dancing beams and graphics and filling an entire nightclub with Lasers will mean that you will be lost forever to "Lady Light".
Unless of course you really want to be blown away by what's possible .......

Welcome aboard Lindsay.... Oh, and incidentally, abandon all hope of ever having a healthy wallet again

You'll find loads of help here, we're a pretty decent bunch of folks, honest . Do remember to use the search function though as there's a whole bunch of stuff that's probably been answered a hundred times or more, but never be afraid to ask.

You may want to do a search for the Pangolin FB3 DAC. This comes with a whole host of software to drive your laser. If you're feeling really flush, take a look at a QM2000 system

It's the UK Laser enthusiasts meeting this weekend in Leicester, there'll be loads of lasers and other goodies to feast your eyes on, it might be worth jumping in the car and having a little ride out. Has your wife ever been to Leicester

Anyway, have fun, you'll soon become a master of excuses and be easily able to convince your wife... "What?, that old laser?... I've had that for ages"

    Cheers

Well thanks for you responses, guys. Will do a search of the site and see what's what.
This next bit could be dangerous; I am free this Sunday and can make a trip to Leicester. Just the missus to watch out for. Maybe I'll tell her I'm having an affair - that might be the simplest option - and go to the show! (only joking, wife).

To quote an old science fiction series, "Danger, Will Robinson, danger!"

    See you at the show?
