I share your pain Rob, stirred up bad memories!:
A few months back I had ordered a swanky new iPod which had the unfortunate experience of being shipped by UPS.
I too was waiting in, the driver came late afternoon, I signed for a (rather smallish) box, he drove off, I opened the box, and there was a BLOODY HAT in the box. Not my fookin iPod. After looking at the address label it turns out I'd been given the wrong parcel (but was too excited to notice first time around).
Spent 30 mins on the phone, being transferred left right and centre and shouted the same 20 digit fookin "Info track" number on that piece of yellow paper until I got what I wanted. I got the van to turn around and to make the delivery again, this time with MY box. The driver was grumpy as he was working 'after his normal hours', to which I replied that if he had done his job right the first time, he would be at home now having tea an biscuits. All in all, job done (after a lot of unnecessary stress). I try to use CityLink, they are by far the best!

    /End Rant

Thankyou that was just what I needed - I have not laughed out loud so much for a long time. Brilliant!

Yeah Dan City link are good - and their driver is a reallt top bloke shame you have little or no control over the courier a company chooses. In this case Bridge chose UPS as they said they could get it here before the meet - which they will but they would have been able to do for today had it not been for the lame ass driver.
Anyway as long as I get the laser package tomorrow I will be happy but I think I turned greyer this afternoon!

I find DHL the best, quickest and easiest to deal with. They call the day before they'll deliver the package to check if the time and date suits, if it doesn't, you can either change the delivery address or date. Then the driver calls before he starts his round to confirm the address. They even deliver on time! I've never had any trouble with them. My laser from bridge was sent by DHL. It was sent on a friday and I got it the next monday.

Of course, UPS, FedEx and the Swedish postal service, they always find a way to screw up somehow.

I think it depends largely on the person who drives the route you live on, or maybe the manager of the branch. Around here, Fedex and UPS are mediocre, USPS is pretty good and DHL has been the worst for me. I once was waiting for a package and when I noticed it was getting late, decided to check online for the status. The status said it was delivered to the receptionist, which was odd, didn't know I had one...

my experience is what products you are urgent need it, the most possible had some problems, . but things finally all solved.
don't worry, Rob, which is the neariest UPS place of you city, maybe you can drive and take it yourself, then don't waiting them for long time. .
    Best regards!

    I absolutely agree with DZ.

Peking - Ceparana ( a very small town in the north of Italy...) only four days by UPS : friday afternoon Bridge have sent my package; tuesday morning I have received it at 11.00 a.m. (just for record: it has been stopped 24 hours at Italian custom in airport).
Same story when I sent my blue laser back to Bridge: four days only from Italy to China by UPS service (fare = € 100 ....damn!).

Anyway I used UPS curier's alot of times and their deliver service has always been very very punctual with me.
But... Maybe I only had a lot of luck...

I am fully satisfied of UPS (even if, sometimes, their service is enough expansive...).

Must admit Rob, I'm a fan of City Link. I order loads off the internet and it always comes the next day as specified without fail. The only downside is they don't give you a time so it is an all day wait and you need to pack the goods really well yourself as the only packing they add is a plastic bag. Always really helpful drivers as well, one of the few who'll actually help you to sign "unchecked" so you don't sign your rights to replacement of carrier damaged goods away.

My favorite - though maybe for the wrong reasons was Amtrack. They used to deliver loads to me and I guess I was in the first half dozen drops every time so I used to get the goods no later than 9:30 every time. Unfortunately they went bust!

Anyway to update the story the second parcel - the one from Bridge - arrived on sat morning with a hand written note stuck to it saying 'must be delivered sat!' Even in trying to fix their drivers feck up they made a mess as I complained about tracking of parcel A (from bridge) and I knew there was a second parcel B also on the van for me - so when they made the special trip on Friday with one parcel they brought the one I wasnt enquiring about parcel B....

    Some words spring to mind.

    piss up, brewery, arse, elbow.

    Idiots
