I want to play this DVD on an XP machine on my desktop. It's a recent purchse and has Windows Media Player. However, when I insert the DVD and WMP opens it says it doesn't have the neccesary Codec pack for playing DVD's.

Is there anywhere I can download a Codec pack for free that will allow me to play DVD's on WMP?

It's not that i'm a cheapskate , it's just that i'll probably never use it again on this PC, so I don't really want to pay for something i'm not going to use. Something virus/malware/adware free would be good

    I don't want much do I?

    Jem,
DVD codecs don't come free with Media Player, and usually come after installation of something like PowerDVD (or some DVD software that came with your computer).
However give VLC a try: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
It should have built in DVD codecs. That'll play just about anything.
You could hunt around for some DVD codec packs for media player, but VLC should work off the bat.

    Ta,
    Dan

its amazing that even win XP media centre edition does not know what a DVD is!
I agree with Dan VLC should do the jobs - its 1000 times more flexible than WMP
