I can't believe it's so soon... Only a week away! I have next Friday off work, which will be awesome. Then a nice 6 hour road trip.

Anyone know the fastest way from Seattle? I5 down to Portland or should I head east in WA then cut down?

    Choice one: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...63&ie=UTF8&z=6

360 mi – about 6 hours 25 mins (up to 7 hours 30 mins in traffic)

From my experience driving in traffic, as long as you can make it past Tacoma and Fort Lewis the rest of your drive should go smoothly. But even from Kent, basically Sea-Tac/Boeing area it usually took me 2-3 hours to get to Portland but has taken me as long as 6 hours (thank you 17 mile back-up). The main issue is that there are not many routes south. Now that Boeing has no surplus store there is no reason to go this way! Oh yeah watch out for Centrailia they have a photoradar van in the work zone and usually a couple state cops in Kalama +- 10 miles either way.

    Choice Number Two: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...91&ie=UTF8&z=6

    387 mi – about 6 hours 53 mins

If you want a nicer drive you can cut over the mountains to eastern Washington and head straight down 97 all the way to Bend. I vote for choice number two...

You could also go further south and take the pass at Mount St. Helen's but that would not save any time.

Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.

    I also like option #2...

I'm leaving here around 1pm at the latest, so I would hit tacoma/ft. lewis traffic around 3pm, which shouldn't be TOO bad, but I think I would rather take the alternate route into yakima...

I'd like to leave earlier, but I'm borrowing my grandma's blazer to fit all my gear into (and it only has like 30k miles so I dont have to worry about car trouble!! ) and she has a doctors appt that morning and wont be back in town until noon.

    should we bring extra hoses?

I was hoping that I could just let the 168 'burn in' for a while because I'm guessing the tube voltage is high. Hasn't had a good run in a looooong time. probably 6 years.

ohhh you just reminded me.... one of the fittings on my PSU going to the head has a little drip leak and needs replacing... I better make a trip to Lowe's before next friday

I plan on stripping your magnets/anode blocks this weekend. I'll get some good pictures of the bare tubes too, just because I've never seen the 'naked tube' and I'm sure quite a few people here haven't seen them (except pat who has probably broken more tubes than I've even seen...)

Then I'm going to grind the BeO down on my bench grinder, seal off the garage, take deep breaths and see what all the fuss is about...
