    Yes,thank you Steve.

This drawing makes the shutter systeem a lot easier to understand.
    Thanks again.

Steve, how does pin 13-Shutter work into the mix with Interlock pins 4 and 17 on your layout?

What are the advantages of using a driver circuit for the shutter, versus triggering with just a solid state relay?

OK, I have manual beam table positions, so I need a manual shutter. On my layout you see a Pango card with ground and shutter (+5V when on) brought out to a relay driver circuit and that relay is in series with the interlock when pango is installed. If pango is not installed, I can bypass it with a shorting jumper.

So I would bring pin 13 out to a switch and use it to drive the relay driver instead of Pangolin

I will be making changes shortly to my system to be ready for SELEM, and that is on the list.

A SSR is one way of doing it. My older card doesn't support enough current (30 mA) for the SSR I would use, so I use a driver circuit.

You can add damping and current control to the driver, ie The SSR runs the full current to the shutter, which once its pulled in, does not need the same amount of power to hold open once magnetized. So you can reduce "cooking" of the shutter.

Is sort of like the differnce between a teetering rotor head and a semi rigid with active damping, both will get you flying.

    Steve,

Do you (or anyone on the forum) have a shutter driver w/damping & current control that you could share with us? I'd like to use this with my rotary soleniod shutter planned.

    Thanks,
    Greg

This is my line of thinking as well. Even with the key to run, if the software isn't ready to tell the shutter to open it shouldn't be open. I will probably accomplish this functionality in my software by integrating an arduino controller.

Why would you ever want to control the shutter with the computer/QM?

Is manual control only not enough?

This is the schematic I will be using for shutter control, I also have the possibility to powerdown the QM in case of a problem.
