***bump*** just trying to keep this thing visible.
if anyone has the money laying around, put it on your AmEx (since if you have that much money you must have an amex) and then when the projector doest do 28W... because, lets face it, if it does I will eat my hat, call up Amex and tell them, they will happily charge them back for you![]()

If you need to ask the question 'whats so good about a laser' - you won't understand the answer.

Hey Kats -
So, a few days past, the ILDA / laserist list was all abuzz from some 'controversy' I seem to have started, over a simple (albeit 'colorful / obnoxious', as-per my usual style) recommendation to a poster, who asked for some advice about LW projectors... I wrote: (edited for brevity...)

Can't help much with the LaserHarp controller (though I could-suggest you contact our 'resident- expert' [PERSON]... - BUT -
DO NOT Purchase anything 'Laserworld' until you first speak with Dan Goldsmith of X-Laser / ILDA Regulatory Committee Chairman, 866-702-7768 x114
Let's just say 'avoid LW like ebola' is probably too-kind...
Hope this helps..
J
Comments: 1) I directed him to Dan, *not* because of some 'competitor-motive' or some other crack-smoking concept - we have no-connection with X-Laser, business-wise / commission-wise, or any other-such 'conspiracy theories' - it's simply that Dan is an ILDA-member (therefore, on those 'lists' / directories) and b) has-had a rather extensive first-hand experience with LW as a Co. and with their products - so, a good 'reference' to point the poster-to, that's all...
Then, some 'other' (I will let them speak on their own-behalf, here, if they should-so choose...) ILDA-members posted similar 'passionate' and 'opinionated' replies... In 'hindsight' - sure, perhaps that list was not the 'best place' to use such 'colorful language / descriptors' about another Co. / their products - a simple 'check with this guy before you buy', likely would have been, uh, more 'diplomatic'. Fine. But the last time I checked, I was still free to express my Opinion, about a Co's *well-earned* reputation, of-which, they are 100%-responsible for-creating - not me....and one of the replies, in-particular, was flat-out 'spot-on', with facts, and extremely-reasonable logic / reasoning...
There were a few replies, from other ILDA-members / others, saying 'hey, don't be so hard on them / give them a chance to improve, everything I've gotten / experienced has been great, etc, etc' - and I am sure that is very-well the case for that individual - but, after seeing LWs' FDA-mocking / law-flouting 'Variance-process page' - (as was excellently posted by a PL-member a few days-back, btw... ) I much more 'mildly' posted:

OK, here's an 'entertaining-one' for ya:

...and this one is 'extra-special':

...apparently, they never got / read Laser Notice 50/51??
I mean, yes, we all-know that when the CDRH 'bottleneck' starts to impede commerce, some, here just 'do what they gotta do', especially if using already actually-certified gear, etc.. but until LW-products ARE certified (not just with 'accession numbers') and/or this is cold, hard *CDRH-published fact*, (ie: 'new' Laser Notice, etc...) they really need to get their facts straight and not be steering potential Clients closer to 'the Dark Side'..
Classic salesmen - Sell at any / all cost, regardless of degree of truth....
Thx, but we'll pass...
...What was LW's 'reply'?

What cowardly BS!!! Yeah, you're really gonna show us, LW, cause we've spoken-out in backing-up the TRUTH. Your products are NOT yet Certified, (cause an 'Accession Number' is nothing more than a document filing-number - at MOST, like-a 'pre-approved credit-line offer'...does NOT mean you ARE or WILL get approved...) and more-importantly, many are unSAFE, not to mention even getting started on the quality / false-advertising issues (adv. power vs actual, etc, etc, etc) - Libel? Nice try, but FAIL. Why?
Read this 'defense' by one of their 'distributors': (red highlights, mine, cause they will make you angry...)

Hey laserists all over the world.
I do understand very well what you think about the whole Laserworld-Products. I thought the same before...
I can only repeat what I said last week (and what is confirmed also by [OTHER DEFENDER]...) - and I am sure, you would believe me, IF you would REALY test and compare the latest products which are available.
OK- forget everything cheaper then 3K - indeed - these are not "lasers" as we expect - more toys for the massmarket, clubs and discos... - which are quite happy what they get for 2K...
BUT we are talking about serious laserprojectors, no ? So, lets compare them with everything else what is available on the market!
...I'm gonna 'cut it' right there - Isn't that pretty-much WHY LW is FAIL, in a nut-shell?? 'What do you all you "100,000"+ *fools* expect for your $2-3K, you silly wankers??'
Yeah, sure, a *small percentage* of folks actually GET what was advertised, power-wise / 'value' for what their intended-purpose is (yes, 'DMX-flash n trash for drunk people' is not much of a 'high-bar'...) but that's small consolation, I say, for the THOUSANDS of other hobbyists / enthusiasts / 'semi-pros / pros', who work hard to save up $2-3K to (or worse, go in into debt $2-3K to...) get one of these shinola-boxes, only to be deflated, once they get a power meter, and/or as soon as that often-fatal 'Month 13' rolls-around - IF they even make it that far...
And simply pursuing the defense that '...well, that was 2008, you should see our 'NEW' line of projektors!' - which are nothing more than other Co's fine products (ie: Swisslas, RTI, Coherent, etc) is bogus, since that only bespeaks-to the OEM's quality, NOT that of LW... Selling Ferraris does not make you a better car-dealer / dealership... YOU make you better / worse, regardless of what you sell...
Slander? Libel? ...I say, let's find theout.
Anyone up for a 'new website' / online input-forum, here??
I don't propose PL as the 'battleground' - not it's purpose, and frankly, we / Spec have better things to-do...
But, surely, thousands of 'LW' system-Clients, logging-in to a 'central-repository' to tell of their actual experiences - bad OR good or a bit of both... will be far-more compelling of a 'story' than just those that have had to deal with 'cleaning up puddles of post-sale sick'...Further, LW certainly can't call 'libel' on real-world, end-user experiences.
This would have to be a 'disinterested third-party' so LW could not accuse the site-holder of any 'biased-motives', (because of 'selling a competing-product'); likewise, nor could it be hosted by any LW-dealer or, of course, LW, themselves...any 'editing / filtering' would defeat the 'purpose'...(we'd also need IP-addy x-checking on where these "Clients" are geo-located, if you get my meaning...)
You know, simply: 'Of the People, By the People, For the People'.... If LW can dish out 'Worldwide Statements', well, so can the World.
...Who knows...Maybe this will churn-up 100,000+ 'thrilled' unbiased-reviews and they'll sell more systems (due to the revu-site) than-ever...Or maybe...
Thoughts?
j
PS: LW, since I'm sure you'll be reading this soon, this ain't 'libel', this is the 'real world' - when you've got PROOF of 100% FULLY / ACTUALLY Certified (and SAFE) products, show-down (since this: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/script...ineId=1&SfxId= is *stlll* all the 'facts' that pop-up on your Co. in a site-wide search at the FDA..) Got something 'new'? Ok, Show it to us...PROVE to us you have 'special' FDA-permission to, in-fact, ship to customers in the US, BEFORE people have their Variance approvals... and remember: until the FDA publishes-otherwise, ACCESSION NUMBERS ARE NOT APPROVALS / CERTIFICATIONS...You might have 'missed' Laser Notice 51? ...or do you somehow think this does not apply to you, because you opened up shop in Switzerland? If-so, you FAIL. Prove your 'compliance', in this one regard...and I'll 'back-off' - till then, Welcome to the mat, punk.![]()
