Congrats Jass! A good thing too that it is 'allowed' and official nowadays.

As for the ring..... I imagine its a hassle to take it off all the time but it still is a symbol of your love and should reflect that, not so much you technical job - I think.

You could always do what I used to do in my former, somewhat-high-risk occupation:

While on the job, wear the ring as part of a necklace (in my case, dog tag chains!) around your neck, and safely tuck inside your shirt as needed to keep it away from hazards.
Given the risk of loss (ring and/or digits!) if I didn't do that, my wife thought it was quite acceptable!
I wore one almost 24/7 that way for close to a year, and the ring held up just fine.

How about dip it in a nice clear epoxy resin. Or some kind of resin that wont conduct. I must say Congratulations !!

My better half and I had occupational concerns as well when it was time for us to get rings. She's a clinical pharmacist and I'm a pharmacologist. We both frequently wear latex/nitrile gloves in our lines of work. She needed a stone setting that wouldn't catch on gloves or scratch patients and I wanted something that wouldn't hurt my finger after hours in a glove. We worked closely with a platinum smith to design rings that matched and fit our requests. Overall I think we came out cheaper than going to a big name jewerly store and have something unique. Get something that works for you though, because if you start taking it off and putting it on you will lose it, especially when you are not used to wearing it. Don't ask me how I know. Alternatively, one of my coworkers takes her ring off every morning, puts it in the same drawer at her lab bench, and puts it back on at the end of the day. You can also just not wear it to work and just wear it at home or when you go out.

Jade also comes to mind. Wood and tattoos are also options. I'd be afraid glass would chip or shatter if hit wrong - even pyrex. You can always get an aniversary ring of a different style later if you are no longer working in computer guts.

LaserWizard has a funny story about not taking off rings, but I'll let him tell it if he wants.
