    Agreed, the ND filter is most probably the cheapest and most reliable option for a silicon sensor.

    One note of caution when using an ND filter though. To get the best reading on a silicon head it is best to be at pointed directly perpendicular to the sensor. If you get a reflective ND filter, the reflected beam will most likely be headed straight back into the laser diode/module. I would suggest orienting the laser slightly off that angle to minimize/eliminate laser fatalities associated with this...

    This is why I prefer the alumina attenuators, backscatter is actually minimal

    Hey thanks for all the input! Do you guys know what is used by the Coherent LaseCheck in the built-in attenuator it uses? I think that the detector is similar to the one I bought.

    Its a piece of "black" Schott glass, NG-10 comes to mind as the number.
