    Default Tidy - Magna - 07.03.09

Some videos from a recent Tidy (Hardcore) event at Magna Rotherham.

I though Insanity had done this one but apparently although he's done them in the past he didn't do this event.

A nice Whitelight at work here. Not Hugos standard of show but nice nevertheless by UK standards:

My own short video clip from the outside is here to show the size (main room is 100m x 30m x 30m, building = 350m long) (was going to use it in a post event video but the event got cancelled!):

Looks like a great venue! I love old industrial buildings. So much better than ordinary nightclubs, arenas, etc. Another venue that seems nice is gashouder in amsterdam. We are doing something similar in stockholm, but I think it will become an opera house (wtf?). Here is a much better use for old gas storage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYtn_3sB1WE

We have a fantastic venue underneath my university. Deep under the ground is (well... was) Sweden's first nuclear reactor. That would be quite the venue for a rave! http://www.viewat.org/?i=en&id_pn=1734&sec=pn

I have to agree... I used to DJ in '89 at all the illegal raves.. Played everywhere from barns, warehouses, aircraft hangers and even an old mental hospital...

I think Magna is an old steel works, but now an educational theme park type thing... Gashouder is an awesome venue, but Holland seems to be full of great venue's....

Back in the day Cambridge was only second to London with the rave scene, now it's just full of pubs and a couple of *Really* bad clubs... And I use the term club loosely

Nice pics insanity. This place is massive. The camera and the fact its in the middle of the room both belay the size.

This picture from Google gives a good idea:

The horizontal bar of light at ground level at the back is a bar.

The huge horizontal straight roof strut behind the 1st arch is the half way point (although you have to remember this is brought forward by the huge stage at the front which protrudes outwards).

Awesome venue but very expensive hire - £6,000 for the main room, add in a side room and the lobby and your talking @ £12,000 ($18,000 US) for the night!!!

    very expensive hire
    It's all relative, 5000 people @ £10-£15 /head

The events I've seen there are usually around £30-35 per head.

But when your Dj's are at least £10,000 per hour also (I've heard rumours Armin charges nearer £30,000) at 10 hours worth of event, it sometimes get hard to imagine a profit even at those levels especially when you take into account the laser hire, logistics for the sound / lighting rigs, all the event staff. Obviously the bar and merchandising tops it up a little, but even so its not cheap.

I was pulling a number out of the air to make the point that it's not the venue thats expensive... thanks for the confirmation

Yeah its all expensive Pit. I guess the danger with a large expensive venue though is you don't sell out which of course screws the budget figures.
