I don't have anything against smart high school kids that have learned how to express themselves, and especially not with the ones that know how to behave around adults. Those kids are actually a pleasure to be around. They are inquisitive, attentive, and smart as hell. You start explaining something, and within 10 minutes they're asking questions that you find difficult to answer, because you never even thought to consider that particular aspect of the topic. It's rare that I find myself challenged by a 16 year old, but when it does happen, it's enlightening for both of us.

It's the more general sort of high school kids that make me want to throw up. The one's that openly identify themselves as the myspace generation. The retards that would rather text someone 15 times in a row than just pick up the damn phone and talk to them for 30 seconds... And more specifically, the idiots on LPF that don't know shit, yet will argue with you anyway. (And then post the thread on bash.org as proof of their "skills", despite the fact that they're still dead wrong about the issue...) Those asshats can all jump in the lake as far as I'm concerned.

If I do get banned, it's their loss. They'll have one less member who is willing to help out and contribute ( both knowledge and services ) to the community.

IMO that forum has been nothing but shit (ok, 95% shit and 5% useful research on new diodes) for over a year now.

it's turned into a bunch of 12 year old kids who think they know everything about how the world works. Call you a scammer if you try to make $50 bucks on something you put a lot of time and effort into. They will actually go research your material costs and say "this cost you no more than $100 to make. *insert price list of materials* you're trying to scam us charging 200!!!"

If they think your product is too expensive, rather than just NOT BUYING IT (like any decent person would do) they decide to come into your "for sale" thread and say things like "that is WAY too expensive" or "that is a ripoff no one will buy that"

They think just because THEIR time isn't worth a damn thing, that other people's time isn't either.

Thousands of members and only about 15 (ok maybe 50) worth talking to.

I'm not trying to knock the forum or anything because I did, and still do, learn a lot over there. But it's been taken over by a bunch of 'tweens' with attitude problems. (no offense to the kids with a good head on their shoulders (Diachi, things, basically the one's who have stuck around for a while))

I agree with GG , there are a few members who are really good guys/gals who all contribute well and spend a lot of their hard earned cash on testing laser diodes and other parts.

But there are a few 12 year old kids, as GG has said, who think they know everything about how the world works. These are usually the ones who tell sellers what their products are worth just because it does the same thing as something else and must therefore be worth the same.

They also call new vendors spammers and scammers as soon as they advertise a product, they don't even give them a chance to have their products tested.

in the end, it's the idiots that think they are better than everyone, just cause they have some rep, that will lose out.

Pat, there is a fundamental difference between that place and PL. Here, people are respected for what they know, and even more for the knowledge that they share. Over there, it's all about who's best buddies with whom... You can be the biggest idiot alive, and yet if you win the popularity contest you are a god.

Looks like a couple different people have intervened on Pat's behalf. I'm pretty sure that Andrew (Dr. Lava) said something to the admin over at LPF, and apparently a few other PL members did so as well.

While it's nice that they've un-banned him, the fact that he was ever banned in the first place is a sign of how screwed up that forum is.

Me and a few others ( don't know who ) PMd the Admin asking that the flame war thread be closed down,also stating that Pat's ban was unfair , that T_J had also stepped out of line and that a simple " chill out " would have sufficed.

LPF is probably gonna fall apart completely soon anyway, which is a shame, it used to be great.

I'm really very sorry for the tangential off-shoot... But I had not heard of Bash.org prior to this mention... That is one retarded point for a website! Although, it does have some funny things (are these real?! ).

IMO, LPF will not dissolve... It's really hard to do that! I was an admin there a really long time ago. There are other forums that cater to that scene as well (including the infamous Wicked Lasers forum )...

In either case... I believe LPF got its great sense of personality from a few members that had had a great 'posting and bashing' record over there. It is quite odd how the situation got handled, and was yet unresolved... This is also the previously mentioned legal issue... The end result was the forum has lost MANY really great people that had contributed and helped countless times. I have eversince stopped reading anything there except on an odd occasion... I also would like to believe PL is safe from that kind of influence. We have a common sense of responsibility and mutual respect amongst the members here... That's priceless
