Laser Warning First post! Laser newbie!

    Good morning,

I hope everyone is ok! im Dell, well, taz on here, i wasnted to give a warm hi to everyone as recieveing my first RGB laser this morning! its made by NGR and i bought it off of ebay for, well a lot, it has 50k pps @ 30degree and is approx 500watt. i dont know if thats goo,d but i went up a couple of notches to get one with a faster scanner speed.

I also bought the moncha full package and now have satisfied my laser buzz and now have some questions

    - How do i get laseroids on my computer, do i have to buy easylase? can i not just use my moncha DAC? i ran it and heard sounds when i pressed the keys but my laser didnt turn on.... this also applies to lasertennis and laserworld 3d.

    - What other software would you reccomend? I think moncha is an amazing piece of kit, with the sotware too.

    - Are there any realtime sound > laser software for visualisations?

    - Is there any problems in leaving my laser idle? obviously without the lasers on...

    - Do lasers have a life expectancy?

    - Do lasers dim after a while (in months)

    many thanks...

oh and hey zoof, im a big fan

Do you perhaps mean 500mW rather than 500W ? or is 500W the power consumption ?

I would recommend Pangolin FB3 as another good laser show controller, I've never used it , but I've only heard good things about it.

Your laser should be okay to be left idling as long as the lasers are off

Yes lasers have a life expectancy, though many are under-driven to increase this rating. Most lasers are rated for around 10,000hours use.

The lasers should not dim in months unless they are very cheaply made. Otherwise they should last you years, some even increase in power over time !

    Hope this helps you

    -Adam

EDIT: Just a little hint, we LOVE pictures

In order to get Laseroids and other games working, you should get a Lazymame. Also, Zoof recently added this feature to one of Pangolins software (forgotten wich one exactly, sorry). Contact Zoof, maybe he can give you tips to get it working with Moncha DAC.

I added QM2000 support for world3D (with a big thanks to Bill). Should be done for the games laseroids and lasertennis as well. If anyone wants to work with me to get my stuff working on Moncha, drop me a line. Should not be too hard.

Has Mike, the maker of lazymame added Moncha support?

The FB3 still does not have an API (AFAIK) so it isn't likely to be supported by `community' software anytime soon - so no games / lazymame.

If you want to switch DACs go for the QM2000, otherwise try to get some people to help me implement Moncha

Nice show. Only question have you power tested your laser? A few Laserworld lasers have been tested on here and allegedly found to be under power. I have one and mines overpower but many have allegedly been under.
