    Default whats the rule?

    If a file is created by a member and posted here (ilda specifically), does that file become fair game for anyone to use?

    whats the rule?

    Yes, that's generally the purpose of them to post it.

    but
    you should not try to sell it
    or take credit for it
    or fail to give appropriate credit where it it due
    and if you include it with your software or distribution you should say that it is freely redistributable (i.e. don't try to take copyright of it for yourself)

    ok thats the question.. can I redistribute it or use it in a show? Maybe not a show that i sell, but a show that is for public spectacle, or even one that was paid to be seen (wow thats some strange sentence structure right there)

    Cool

    Alec;

    If someone has put an ILDA file that he or she has created "into the public domain" by uploading it to the FTP server, then you are free to use it in your own shows - even if you end up charging admission for them.

    Can't you specify rights of use?

    Cool

    If you do, then you have to include a license agreement with the file. Something like the creative-commons license, or the GNU General Public license... If you want to restrict the use of the file, then you'd have to write up something custom and include it with the ILDA file archive.

    But barring the existence of any license agreement, anything in the public domain is fair game, assuming that it was the content creator that released it to the public domain...

    That's right, it's public domain. My list was 'courtesy' rules that professionals might follow.

    If you want to post that ild of the laser boids I did from "that other forum" I'm fine with that being public domain as long as it's somehow credited in the file that James and I did it. I can generate more boids, as long as they cooperate!
