    Default Laserscopes again

Trying to adientyfy a fault and not sure if its the head or 532 heater area. Dont want to start stripping down the wrong part.

Anyone know if removing the KTP heater cable will totally stop 532nm emitting or is it purely for optimizing the KTP.

It seams something is preventing lasing. I do not have any shutters.

Anyone got a guide to removing and inspecting the rod.

My lamp is taking upto 42amps according to the PSU and lamp light is visible at the LAM end, if the lamp was faulty could it still do that.

Is there anything else you can suggest I look at.

Been on touch with laserman532 and we cant seam to locate it exactly so it time to ask more.

I think you would still get green if oven wasnt working. I would only run lamp at 35 to 38 amps until you get lasing in IR. If it is the ceramic cavity you could pull off the top to look if your rod is cracked. If a gold cavity you could shine a hene through it to see if you get a good spot or one with fractures. You really need an IR viewer to check it out properly. You could remove the KTP mount and attempt to get IR lasing again. Without an IR viewer, this is very difficult.

A KTP will produce green it IR is present even if the oven was bad or ktp was fractured. It sounds like no IR...check rod and alignment is all you can do...

Ok so after a lot of digging, several calls to the USA and a lot of help the fault has been found.

It turns out that the Yag rod had a small crack on the end and after me repeating to find the fault made that crack into a valley.

    What a bummer.

Now I need to find a new complete set, that's the yag rod and the metal tubes that hold the rod.

    See the attached images.

The rod is 3mm x 79mm-80mm cant be exact about the length due to the crack.

The holders are 100mm long and 7,5mm diamiter.

Big thanks laserman532 & Lazer Zone for the assastance in finding the problem.

here is only one place to get your yag rod re surfaced or buy a new one.

there are dozens of places to get rods from - I would use Laser Focus Buyers Guide to find a vendor.

I personnaly would buy a new rod, but that is just me.

the rod holders I have no idea where you are going to get them. Some one on this forum has an old surplus V-burner that may be they can scrap them from.

Which brings me to a point. I am selling great NEW stuff for ceramic cavity laserscopes, and when my spare parts are gone, THEY ARE GONE and you may be in a world of DooDoo if you dont pick up my parts...just a warning from someone who knows you can find them at ebay laserman532. I will make one more run on ebay starting monday, or I will donate them to my old school for a tax credit. Remember Squirrels store their nuts all summer for the long winter. there is an anology there...you just have to find it!

I just talked to the guys at cascade laser couple weeks ago, they will custom make laser safety goggles I thought might be useful for seeing your laserscope at WeCoLEM. I drove by there place the other day. I know of a surplus rod around, I can have the specs/price/etc checked if you are interested (nothing in it for me, but a trip to a nifty store).

Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.
