    Default Warning

Warning! You have a holographer in your midst! Although I have to confess that I have made a variety of primitive scanners for amusement, like mirrors on speakers, which I burned out from trying to enlarge the pattern and put 70 audio Watts into 5 Watt speakers, or wobulating mirrors, off-center round mirrors on DC motors, and a pair of galvos I got from MWK surplus, takeouts from first generation Laser Disc device (12" discs read by a He-Ne! Remember those?) which worked up to their limit of about 60Hz.

Other connections to the light show world include meeting Jerry Fox, RIP, and Steve Heminauer, who I don't know if he is in the biz anymore, but I remember a demo he gave of 3-d graphics with polarizing filters.

    I've got He-ne's galore, including a complete set of Spectra-Physics 120 series lasers (120, 124, 125, too bad none of them work!), a 100mW Coherent 315M and a 1 Joule Ruby.

I like looking at your site, it's a lot funnier and livelier than the holography ones!

I make gratings, what kinds of things do you look for in them as far as divergence/spatial frequency, number of orders, etc?

    Keep up the fun work!

    Ed,

You may want to get a hold of hologeek on the board, although you may already know him he also shares the holography bug. Another good resource here for HeNe optics is Laserman532, if you don't already have enough.

I am interested in hearing more about your diffraction gratings!

Well considering that until I got laid off I did holographic patterning with a UV argon with a etalon and digital frequency lock, I'd say your not too alone here, welcome!

I was hoping you'd say that. For the most part we like x-y patterns and very dense orders with equal brightness.

There is a ILDA standard for grating description, but I don't have a copy right now.

welcome!! can we see some of your work? pics of your setup(s) also would be AWESOME to see!! i know it doesnt show it justice by looking at a screen, but i have always loved holograms. i would be VERy interested in some gratings from you also!

welcome! hope you find your stay here fun!

    Welcome friend

I'd love to pick your brain on a couple of things that have been grating on my mind recently

My knowledge of holography is probably about 0.0001% of Ed's, I bow down in his presence as I am not worthy

    Hi Ed

Nice to see you over here, another holographer (and such an esteemed one ) is always welcome

Sadly, I haven't been active on the Holography forum for a month or two as this side of the hobby has been taking up more of my spare time

I know you've been a member (and a lurker) here for a long time, but it's great to see you've come out of the woodwork, i'm sure we'll all benefit from having someone with your depth of knowledge and experience here.

    Cheers

    Jem

P.S. On another note... Did you and Bill Durell ever get in touch?

    Greetings, Ed! Welcome to PhotonLexicon.

I think quite a few people would be interested in any grating effects you could come up with. Sure, we all like to play with scanners, but grating and lumia effects are also very cool.

Any chance of you making the trip to North Carolina this summer for SELEM 2009? It's got a pretty heavy focus on laser projectors, but I think you'd still have a great time...

    Adam
