Hi Ed.. Im the resident sarcastic ass... well im in competition with soferone i think..

    but welcome anyway..

im interested a nice grating that creates a horizontal line of dots. but im interested in them all being similar in intensity. i hate hotspots.. i dont know anything about "orders" so im sure that someone else can explain this better than I.

i believe my resume, though not as long as some, is VERY impressive in the field of sarcastic assery.

Thanks for the kind words! I know Jem from the holography forum, I think he's the one that turned me on to this site.

When I mean orders in a grating, it's how many beams are coming out of it. The straight through beam is the zero order, and there are plus and minus 1, 2, 3 ... to the right and left of the central one. I guess for these uses the more the merrier! And having diffraction both horizontally and vertically to give a square pattern would also be desirable.

About how big would be useful? I'm assuming that the grating would be downstream of the galvo's, so would something about 2" by 2" square be about right?

ok i get ya.. thats what i thought you meant by order but was not sure..

yeah 2"x2" is a good size i think.

i think that the main thing is lots of dots with very equal power and little distortion.

I know I want a linear -n 0 +n dot pattern (15-20 total so -10 +10??) spaced evenly of course. This would be lovely for a project I have in mind, but I am flexible.
