    Default $200 at a time

so i was talking to mark the other day and realized something..

you can get in to lasers 200$ at a time.

    here is how it goes.

    SP20s - i can get a set delivered for around 200$
green - 150mw green analog i can get for 200$
dual red 660, i can build that for 200$
    same goes for bluray
    i can get a RIYA for 200$
put that together with 200 bucks worth of connectors, optics and baseplate

other than a case you got yourself a laser projector..

    Doesn't that total $1200?

And really, if you buy just the green laser, there's not much you can do. Green laser + scanners + baseplate + controller + connectors will get you somewhere, but that's more like $650.

Still, I agree that it's possible to do it in steps. I started with green only and moved up to RGB later.

Out of curiosity, where are you getting that $200 green laser w/ analog modulation and 150 mw output? That's seems to be a pretty good deal.

This shows how expensive lasers are, when I bought new light fixtures it was like 100-150 euros at a time.

True, but the laser effects are cooler!

In fairness though, the prices of lasers have come down a *LOT*. Following Alec's example above, you'd have a full RGB (or RGV anyway) projector for around $1200. 5 years ago that figure would be 3-5 times that much, and 10 years ago you'd be talking about 10 times as much.

So yeah, lasers are still expensive, but they are getting more and more affordable. What wonders will we have 10 years from now?

    the 150mW output is questionable...
    but the laser works well.

I predict that in 10 years time the British government will blame lasers as the main cause of global warming and the root cause of cancer, and will therefore levvy a one thousand percent tax penalty on them. This will force the price of a 100mW dpss laser to nearly the same level as a gallon of gas. Shortly thereafter; they will form a consortium of the world's leaders, and launch a massive publicity drive in order to convince every typical middle class person in the western hemisphere that, the fact that planet Earth has been warming up for millenia is irrelevant. They are immoral, good for nothing toe jam unless they pay these taxes, I mean stop destroying the Earth with this selfish, wreckless compulsion to want to drive to work or deliver things, or God forbid; stand there agog, slavering over their planet destroying, cancer causing visible radiation beams.

    Probably.

You don't have to spend a lot to get in to lasers. I was going to put together my "tight budget" system for the UK meet. This was a £50 ebay 200mW argon, a set of £100 12K scanners, and a second hand PM20 I bought for £100.

I still should stick it together, I love the colour of that Argon!

In the year 2012, the Anti-Laserist shall rise in the name of peace for
seven years between all laserists around the world. In the third year,
all lasers break down and all the good photons are killed in one swift...

Oh wait! I meant the Anti-Christ! whoops my bad
