great stuff, and very inspiring to develop drivers and the like

linear technology also has some nice app notes about current sources and the like, really useful

watch out for anything by Jim Williams at LT, what works on his bench and what really get printed on the data sheets seem to be two different things. If you ever see the pics of his prototypes in his book, you'll see why.

this is the first law of electronics never rely on an individual's work to develop circuits, always try to find many closely related sources, and then study the principes before any design

I used to prototype with datasheet default designs when I started electronics at high school... it soon proved unreliable and I switched to google

Not sure about for entertainment lasers, but for CD players, Burr Brown are noted for producing some of the best DAC's out there.

Burr-Brown are owned by Texas Instruments, who literally wrote the book on high performance electronics. These fellows really know their stuff.
