    Default Cooling, Cooling, Cooling

    Well, I;ve got my projector pretty much done for now, but I have had a problem I wasn't expecting. I used a small alu plate for my scanpro 20's, and with everything on it, it barely even got warm, but now I have my DT25's, laser etc mounted on a 6 millimeter thick alu baseplate, but it gets hot after about 2 hours or so

    The case is pretty damn squishy as it is, and I only have access to 5V, 24V and 48V supply rails. I have a small(ish) blower fan here, but can't figure out how I could mount it to avoid drilling any more holes in the case. As you can see, my case has vents, but it just needs some form of air circulation. Another problem contributing to that, is the fact that there isnt much in my case that would be a great heatsink, so i'm pretty stuck on how I could go about cooling this thing.

    It doesn't need major cooling, but just some kind of air circulation.

    Have you considered using heatpipes to bring the heat out of the case and then use an external heatsink? Alternatively, using the case itself as a heatsink.

    a cpu case fan or similar (get one with a filter) would probably be all you need.

    I'd say he needs a pair of those fans wired in series. He mentioned that he only has 5 V, 24 V, and 48V power rails.

    So access the 24V rail and put a pair of 12V fans in series. That will solve your airflow problem without burning the fans up.

    And yeah, I'd add a filter on the inlet side.

    Go overkill like moi on the DT25's heatsink.
    I had a 1" x 1" x 4" bar drilled to the DT25 amp plate, and it was shockingly hot after 30 mins.
    Sooo.... whip the black plate off and attach them to a beast of a heatsink instead!

    The copper 'sink never even gets warm to the touch after being on for several hours!

    But, if space is a concern then I guess a mega fat lump of copper is out....

    oh yeah... missed that..

    there are 24v fans but 2 in series is even better..

    Just be careful buying fans with digital drivers, some of them dont work in series. The days of the brush comutated fan that can run in series are nearly gone, although a few still are made. In other words Brushless fans may not like being hooked to each other.

    I have tried mounting one of those little fans to the vents, but I still dont have much in the case to transfer the heat to the air, Then again, if I got enough airflow it should b alright. Those little fans sound like jet engines tho

    wire them in parallel, that should reduce airflow by 50%, but noise by 80%... doubling the amount of fans would keep 100% airflow with reduced noise
