Default Need some info. Laserscope 600 Series Dye Module

    Hi all,
I have VERY easy/cheap access to a laserscope 600 Series Laser Dye Module. I need a bit more info on this unit, though.

Do these contain a laser or are they pumped by the 40W KTP systems?

The guys that have the unit are saying that they *think* it contains a 3.2W 532nm laser, and pumps it through the dye, all in one unit.

Is this a 'flowing dye' type laser or does it have a dye cell or something similar?

I'm thinking about picking it up as it's less than 5 minutes from my house and it's REALLY cheap.

If it really does contain a 3.2W 532nm laser I'll go pick it up tomorrow.

    Any info is appreciated

    EDIT: Here's a picture

Its a dye cell, NOT DYE JET, ie qswitched or CVL pump only.

DSLI Jon has a fiber pumped one, talk to him.

All the ones I've seen are fiber pumped. The head on that one matches the fiber one. I have no idea what is in the lower body.

Jons is like 4 watts at 20 watts of pump, so one running at 3.5 would be for eye surgery or something else needing very low power.
    thats all I know.

I have seen reports of 7W red achieved with circulated dye lasers, but dye cells are not designed for CW (dye saturation issues) so the achievable power would be less than 1W pulsed at yellow wavelengths if it is for eye surgery (and momentary !!)

if there is a high powered green laser investigation might be worth it!

maybe you could ask for inspection? there should be easily removable panels to see the guts if the seller is OK for you to have a look at the internals

The high-power KTP/YAG™ fiberoptic surgical laser
is used separately for a broad range of procedures
when the Dye Module is not in use
pump laser seems indeed to be separate

it is just the dye laser, you need a pump laser. I have one for sale

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt & selling it in a garage sale.

I know this is a serious grave-dig, here but I never saw it - I assume you 'passed' on this supposed '3.5W green-included' unit - sure hope you did - the only 'green' that would come with this unit would be the green you'd turn when you realised the sellers were totally full of guano...

This laser won't even initiate the dye-pump w/o a SURGICAL-ready Laserscope (pin-coded fiber-coupler + CPC-connector, below - and there are voltages passing from/to, not just some simple 'interlocks'...) connected to it, AND there is even a 'turn-on sequence' that must be followed... not a simple 'hack' to get this to give you light...

And yes, Steve is correct, it barely starts to give you red at 7-8W of 532, so 3.5W would maybe give you a 0.01mW pointer - I doubt it would even lase at all... 16+W of pump, and you start to see some Red power...and the only thing 'below' in that 'center-core' are accessory / manuals drawers - it is totally useless to this system...

Hope that puts this to rest, and hope to see you down in CA this weekend to snag yer 168s...

    peace..
