    Default uniphase fan board issue...

    Hey all,

I've got a 1/2watt uniphase argon laser. Just picked it up with a smoked fan board in the laser head.

looking at the board there's just a 120v input, and a 120v output to my fan motor. The fan motor still works. I took the fan board out and ran 120v straight to the motor, powered it up, and the laser still works great.

I dont see any sort of heat sensor on the fan board. Anyone have an idea on what this thing is actually doing? I'm tempted to just run a separate power line to my fan motor, let it run wide open, and call it a day.

Anyone see an issue with that? Or is the argon supposed to run at a certain temp. In which case, I should get a thermal sensor and wire it into my fan.

    Comments & suggestions welcome.

    Thanks

    Cool

It should run fine with the fan on all the time. I'd do exactly the same thing you proposed - wire the fan direct and run it!

There are two types of fan board, 110 and just a relay connection, or NO fan, no start sensing. How many wires on yours to the psu?

I didn't even know they had a fan board...

all of mine just have two wires going to the fan straight from the umbilical.
